So much per pumper truck, so much per fire person, times his/her hours, etc. Its all spelled out and itemized. Same thing with the ambulance service. Wouldn't bother me if they did the same thing for police calls. Seems like most of the police calls are to the same houses all the time. We have never had any need call them for anything.

Whats the matter with that kind of system? Seems to work pretty well around here.

Wonder if anyone ever thought of that where this fiasco happened?

1. Yes, that is the sane, rational approach.
Which is why some reject it out of hand, no doubt.

2. The approach they took was that if you are in an unincorporated area and you want Fire Protection
protection you sign up for it at $75 a year.
If you don't want it don't sign up.
The persons in the unincorporated area did not pay any taxes for the fire protection.

The libertarian in question had a fire at his son's house last year and did not have protection.
He still decided not to buy it.

Why is it the fire Department's problem that some free thinker decided to save money by
1) buying property in an unincorporated area to save taxes (This point is assumed)
2) Deciding to save $75 by gambling his grandson would not start a fire that burned down his house this year?

What is the problem with not worrying about short sighted people reaping what they sow?

4. Because fires, like disease can spread....
Because one moron's incompetence shouldn't threaten us all.

5. Which is why the FD was there and put out the fire when it reached his covered neighbor's property

3. You mean, as opposed to your taxes covering fire and police?
What happens if there is no fire this month? No money to firemen? Same with police. Protection means that it is THERE even when "not needed" - if the budget is based on the number of fires or calls, there may come a time in which there will be great incentive for fires to be set and police calls to be "needed"--just to make sure that funds are available. Not a situation I'd like to live in.
