Joe Miller's Wife Received Unemployment Benefits Miller Later Called 'Not Constitutionally Authorized'
Brian Beutler | October 5, 2010, 12:12PM

Tea Party-backed Alaska Senate candidate Joe Miller (R) thinks federal unemployment insurance is constitutionally questionable. But it turns out his wife benefited from it in the early part of the decade -- after she left a job working for him.

According to a resume that she submitted to the state of Alaska in 2009, Miller's wife, Kathleen, worked for him briefly in 2002. In a statement yesterday, the Miller campaign acknowledged that she received unemployment benefits after she left.

"After leaving my office Kathleen did receive unemployment benefits for a short period of time," Miller acknowledged. Unemployment benefits are typically only given to workers who are fired without cause or laid off.

In July, Miller told ABC "The unemployment compensation benefits have gotten -- first of all, it's not constitutionally authorized. I think that's the first thing that's gotta be looked at, so I do not favor their extension."

1. Just like all the tea baggers
It's only OK when they, their family and friends do it, but when people who really need it do it, well "THEN" it's unconstitutional! What so many of the tea baggers fail to see it that if the republicans get their way, there will be NO unemployment, NO SS, NO medicare, NO help at all for those who need it, only help for the rich, the corporations, and the politicians! These people are hypocrites, and those who vote for them without realizing they are cutting their own throats, are just plane crazy!

2. So her husband fired her from her job?
Oh, she was just laid off. Anyway, there's no law that says that you have to sign up for unemployment. If he thinks it's wrong for people who have lost their jobs to get unemployment, he should repay his wife's benefits.

3. Maybe he fired her so she could collect and he wouldn't have
to pay her. I can visualize that scenario.

4. You can't make this stuff up.
The fact is ALL Americans benefit in numerous ways from the 'big' government that a few are railing about these days just to get elected.

Don't you love how the right's wheels are coming off so close to the election?
