Extreme Makeover: Christine O'Donnell Edition
I'm all for playing devil's advocate and covering stories from as many angles as possible. But Mark Ambinder's column today in which he says that Christine O'Donnell's latest ad is not only good, but possibly something that will help her, takes it too far even for me. It wasn't enough that we had to pretend that she could win in order to placate the contrarian political media, but now we have to pretend that starting political ads denying your role in witchcraft is a savvy move. Puh-leeze.

1. That's a good blog post - "“let’s tell both sides” media even when they don't exist
"Why do we have to make believe that O’Donnell is a serious candidate running a serious campaign? She’s a perennial also-ran in Delaware, who caught lightning in a bottle and won a closed Republican primary with a shade over 30,000 votes.

She’s also, sadly, the latest in a long line of examples of us having to play along with the “let’s tell both sides” nature of our political media, even when they don’t exist. I’m willing to suspend disbelief. Hell, I’ve seen Independence Day about a hundred times, and every time I’m able to set aside the fact that there’s no way a Mac could bring down the entire computer apparatus of a race of beings whose technology is light years beyond ours. I mean, downloading a computer virus into an alien mothership? Really?"
