I saved a scabs job at work today

I'm shop steward at my plant. Today I cut a deal to save a non-union (dues are $40 per month) members job. He has had the chance several times over the years to join my union. After the lack of a thank you I got today, I won't stick my neck out for him again.

It is a personnel issue, so I can't give specifics. I wish the hell I could.

OS

1. I hope you didn't go to the mat for him.
Nice thing to do, although the first thing that popped into my head was, "Why?"

2. Some people can only learn by being dropped on their head to acquire knowledge. I wouldn't

bother with them next time either.

PS: I didn't mean you dropped, I meant them. I just reread what I had said!

:hi:

3. you're a better man than I, probably....
I'd be reluctant to have a non-member's back after the first year or two-- certainly not after the first contract the non-member benefited by without helping to negotiate, even if only by paying dues to help support the negotiation team or the union's other activities on his behalf.

4. Let me say "Thank You!". You did a very decent thing today!
Too bad this guy doesn't have the good manners, and good sense (!) to thank you himself!

:toast:

6. sounds like the subs/scabs my wife has to represent
she has to represent them because their issue might be a union issue in the future.

7. Guy sounds like an asshole
He'll probably whine and cry the next time when he does get fired that the union did him in.

8. I wouldn't have done that. These freeloaders deserve what they get.
That's all they are - freeloaders.

My wife has a no-bill friend that boasts about how she enjoys the same benefits as the union dues payers. I want to tell her off, but won't for my wifes sake.

You are a better better man than I, for going to bat for the freeloader. But he stiffed you even after all your help. That's what they do best.

12. You operate under a classy policy
you give a man the same chance you give your own

but if it's not reciprocated in the smallest of ways, you dont become his fool

it's the right way to live

13. Like letting someones house burn down because he did't pay you dues!
Edited on Tue Oct-05-10 07:37 PM by stray cat
How are we different if we only help workers who pay union dues than fire departments who only help people who pay their salaries
