I was driving through NM some years back with my niece
And there was a car flipped over. Two older guys were coming back from a funeral and tried to go around a semi and did not see the other truck to the side of the semi.

I stopped and helped them, several others did also.

I realize after some threads of late I should have waited until the people paid to do the job showed up because there was no money to be made for me. If they had bought insurance that paid good samaritans to help I would have been in the right to help. They made the choice be to driving out in the middle of nowhere where it takes awhile for help to show - they, along with everyone else should pay for it.

When people who pledge themselves as protectors of others put money first we have truly lost.

SOME may say 'they stood on principle' and I agree - but which principle did they stand on? The one to do unto others as you would they do unto you, or that 'money is the root of all the cures in the world'?

2. Did those guys pay you $75 first? If not, you're a fool for helping them.

3. Come on, you're better than this.
Baiting? Really? I usually have the highest respect for your posts, but you know that's a complete straw man and a complete misrepresentation of the point others have made.

6. Perhaps the aid vehicles that weren't there when you were...
were en route from Arizona.

You are comparing apples and zebras here...no application.

I live in an isolated mountain town. We expect to help our own and strangers passing through in any way we can. We have good resources but maybe not as many as can be needed at any one time. We also pay taxes to support fire department/rescue units and police/sheriff and state troopers.

He's usually better than this.
I think he may have completely missed the point.

8. The points others have made? Straw man? Nice way to avoid the real point
That no progressive worth a damned would let this happen to someone.

Would YOU let someone else's home burn to the ground in the situation described?

I know I wouldn't, even it was to prove a point I felt was valid. I would do what I felt was right at that time.

The debate can happen later, but when you are there, at that time - you do the right thing by someone else. Period.
