The Obion County Firefighters' Creed
Edited on Wed Oct-06-10 03:34 PM by derby378
I am a contracted firefighter. I look out for myself, the firefighters to my left and right, and no one else.

I will always take advantage of the fact that I can finally tell Smokey the Bear to pound sand, and will do so at every possible occasion.

Less than $75 to put out a burning house is unacceptable.

I care not for ribbons, nor awards for valor. I do this job for the opportunity to put out fires and to finally get that speedboat I've always wanted.

In any firefighting situation, be it urban or rural, I will always locate the beer and women, because I can.

I will deploy on my terms, and if it ever gets too stupid, I will simply find another fire department that pays me more.

1. "when i was a kid, i dreamed of becoming a firefighter...
"so that i could save the lives of people who were paying customers"

2. Y'know...
...I can't remember firefighters ever coming to visit me in elementary school (though we did have a cop visit us), but I can't see any of them trying to hype their profit margins to the kids in the classroom. All they wanted to do was teach and promote fire safety and talk about what it was like protecting the public from fire.

3. Have you been following the issue?

If you were you'd know Obion County doesn't have an actual fire department.
And therein lies the problem.

4. Doesn't matter
If you're a firefighter, you're a firefighter - and you put out fires because that's what you do.

13. until all your equipment dies & there's no money for gas because no one will pay.

i suppose you could go over there with buckets since you're so dedicated.

i seriously doubt you'd bankrupt yourself to put out fires because "that's what you do".

unreal.

5. I find this post rude, idiotic, and demeaning to all firefighters
They take orders from their captains and marshals.

They are humans like you and me, and I have never met a fireman I did not like.

Making fun of firefighters is not like poking fun at politicians, these guys put their liles on the line for you just like our soldiers.

You shouold delete this immediately.

6. Guys who stand around and watch a residence burn to the ground with
pets still inside are NOT firefighters.

They are fire watchers.

7. it's likely sarcasm
without the requisite :sarcasm: smilie.

Firefighters were from Fulton, KY, responding to a fire in Obion Co., TN. this is an important fact.

9. Maybe you should ask your neighborhood firefighter what he or she would do
My guess is that your local firefighter would tackle that blaze without financial motivation on his mind.

8. Don't blame the firefighters.
Blame the "public servants" who decided to let the guy's house burn down.

11. THERE ARE NO "OBION FIREFIGHTERS". THE COUNTY HAS *NO* FIRE DEPARTMENT.
Edited on Wed Oct-06-10 03:55 PM by Hannah Bell
BECAUSE IT REFUSES TO TAX ITSELF TO PAY FOR THEM.

The majority of firefighters in the CITY OF SOUTH FULTON ARE VOLUNTEERS.

The city of South Fulton taxes itself to provide fire protection to city residents.

Obion County has shot down two proposals to set up its own volunteer fire department.

Your post is stupid.
