About the Fire Dept that agreed to fight fires for a fee....
They have culpability also. They could have told town of RW Libertarians that they would not agree to a voluntary fire response for a fee by demanding they pay upfront for the entire rural area to be covered. The town might have then assessed it's own tax and agreed to a mutual aid contract for a certain amount of money and each resident would have been covered.

If the RW libertarian town decided not to do that, it is on them. TOTALLY on them.

I agree with every single person here that voluntary fire protection is immoral. Yet, that city took the $75 dollars from those smart enough to realize they might lose their house and put their own fire department in moral quandry.

As it was, the next door neighbors property was in danger because the fire dept refused to respond to the first fire. Is this fire department not responsible for damages to a paying fee neighbors house. Luckily the damage was minute. It might not be the next time. Should they let an entire forest burn down because only every third house has fire protection?

It took two to tango in this major screw up. I am focusing on the city fire department in this thread, but the town is just as fucked up. But the city didn't have to go along with it.

1. You clearly do not understand the fact situation.
You don't even seem to know the basic difference between the county and the town(s). Further, you have not really done any research/reading on the issues.

I would suggest you take down your post. Go read Hannah's post and do a little thinking.

2. Wanna lay odds that the county will not fund a fire department?
If the city totally withdraws from the county?

Keep in mind for the most part you're talking about people who want to keep government out of their Medicare.

Practically every person around me thinks this way, if your do not live in the heart of Darkest Full Metal Wingtopia you have no idea what utter idiocy they are capable of..

3. I agree with you. They probably wouldn't. But the fire dept agreed to a fee service

and put themselves at the center of this, and it is a moral quandry.

If these people want to be free of any taxation, that is on them.

The other town doesn't have to enable them. When they agreed to it, they put others who did pay at risk.

I guess all would be at risk without the agreement, but it also might have forced the rural towns hands into doing the right thing.

5. My personal opinion is that the city should withdraw to its borders and let the county go hang..
I kind of doubt they will do that although I could well be wrong.

8. if the city does withdraw its services,.

11. I don't see the basis to sue..
Of course the city would allow the remaining contracts to play out but just not renew..

7. I feel bad that you live amongst such idiocy, Fumesucker.
In my neck of the woods, even the nuttiest of rightwingers I know (one of whom, I'm ashamed to say, is my sister) don't piss and moan about their taxes funding fire departments.

10. Yep
One thing I have not seen mentioned is this. This property is not close to the city. From what I can find, and I could be wrong about the exact location, is that it is about 30 miles and 40 minutes from South Fulton. If anyone has other information about the location let me know.

Don't be discouraged by the persistent, if minimal, opposition to your point of view.

DU overwhelmingly agrees with you on this.
