Long time, but it could happen. For me, the "mainstream" person that would do the least damage would be Mitt Romney. The dark horse would be Gary Johnson.

Look at what Bush did, and the multiply it.

We can't go there.

and after that, anybody who had the misfortune of making less than 150,000 a year during their working years is going to die, early, in poverty after draining their children's savings dry anyhow.

What do I give a shit if the name on the bill that caused this hardship is Palin or Obama?

The GOP winning the White House would be the worst thing that could happen to this country.. no matter who it is. After four years of Obama trying to fix Bush/Cheney's MESS the last thing we need is a GOPuke to screw it all up again.

And, Sarah Palin wouldn't be bad? Are you serious? Palin would make Dumbya look like a saint. Thankfully, she has about as much of a chance at getting elected President in 2012 as I do.

Which prominent Republicans have not shown themselves to be irredeemably lost? It's hard--the current guys make me long for the days when Bush the First and Dole were Republican leaders.

Thinking, thinking... Kind of tough. Mitt Romney showed extended periods of sanity before the 2008 primaries, during which he suddenly fled rightwards. The 2000 version of McCain would be okay, I suppose. Boy, this is depressing.

80. The only Republicans I would consider are long dead.
Lincoln, Teddy and Ike come to mind.

Even the "moderates" of today, such as Snowe and Collins, are completely shit for brains.

81. The stongest candidates would be Romney or Huckabee
and I have a suspicion that Romney as a nominal Mormon is unacceptable to the batshit base of the Republican Party. By comparison to the other potentials at this time, Romney or Huckabee would at least televise as normal people. Bauer, Palin, O'Donnell, Keyes and the other usual suspects just come off as nuts.

83. Not even Mormon Beck could persuade fundies to elect Mormon Mitt.
And since Mitt is now the strongest candidate over the other straitjacket-ready nutjobs in the Gawd/Oligarchy Party, it looks like your dream scenario just ain't-a gonna happen. Obama is going to get another term. Sorry to disappoint.

84. Why are we even asking this question on this forum?
I'm working to get my President re-elected. Dems will not be choosing the R candidate anyway.

86. Mitt Romney I think would be ok
He doesn't strike me as an extremist like many of the others, I think he would be more reasonable in his policies.

That said, I'm not sure he could win the GOP nomination, but of all the names currently out there, he is one I would have the least objections to.

87. All the GOP 2012 prez aspirants are monstrous and
unacceptable.

The harder question might be which among them is the most hideous?

One hardly knows where to begin.

102. That occurred to me after I posted, but I didn't want to change it.
Of all the "name" Republicans I think they would consider running, (constitutional or not) Ahnold would do the least damage (I think.)

Didn't he destroy companies here in America and ship the work overseas. You might want to rethink that one.
