John Kasich and the Hollywood steelworker
The GOP candidate for Ohio governor paid an actor to play a blue-collar voter trashing Ted Strickland VIDEO
BY JOAN WALSH

This is pretty hilarious.

When I was on MSNBC's "Hardball" in June with former House Budget Committee leader John Kasich, now GOP candidate for Ohio governor, he touted some of his Tea Party friends and supporters as "blue-collar Democrats" fed up with Democrats' spending. I challenged Kasich, asking how blue-collar Democrats felt about Kasich's work for Lehman Brothers, the investment-banking giant whose collapse rocked our entire economy, including Ohio pension funds. (Kasich had pitched Lehman personally to the state pension fund board, although that meeting didn't directly lead to business.)

Not surprisingly, Kasich blew up at me, accusing me of a "smear" and urging me to "learn how to control yourself," which was pretty funny, given that I was calm and Kasich was losing his cool in the debate. (According to Real Clear Politics, the race has tightened in recent weeks, as Strickland has hammered Kasich on his ties to Lehman.)

Now comes a new commercial revealing that a Kasich ad that seems to feature a "blue-collar" voter, a steelworker, trashing Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, actually features actor Chip Redden playing the angry steelworker. "When we saw Congressman Kasich’s ad, we wondered why any Ohio steelworker, whose job has been threatened by the unfair trade deals Kasich supported in Congress, would be willing to appear in his commercials," said USW Local 1238's John Saunders. "As it turns out, when Congressman Kasich couldn’t get a real steelworker to do his dirty work, he did what any congressman from Wall Street would do – he paid someone."

1. SO Rec'd. This phony cannot become Ohio's governor.
Idiots abound have John Fasicht signs in their yards . . . in NE Ohio, one of the most ravaged areas in the state when it comes to foreclosures and lost jobs. Amazing.

4. More on how this phony would ruin an already very troubled state should he get his oily mitts on it.

5. I saw the 'steelworker'
commercial last night and I thought....they must have paid him a ton of money to do this. And gee...they did!

Hope Strickland will put out a commercial about this!!! That would be too cool!

6. Take Heart, Ohioans
I just got an e-mail from a local Democratic group stating that the most recent internal polls are showing Strickland with a 4-point lead. And it's my understanding that internal polls are considered infinitely more accurate than all the rest. The tide is turning and Strickland has the momentum, because about a month or so ago, Captain Toolbox Kasich had a double-digit lead.

I live in Columbus, and I also see way more Kasich signs than Strickland signs, but I also know why that is. It's not an indication that he's more popular. He got his signs printed sooner and distributed sooner, and he spent more money on them. Strickland is spending his money on ads, which is a smart strategy considering the fact that there are about a million different things to attack Kasich on that the public doesn't know about. And a yard sign never changed anybody's mind.

Trust me, just as I said back in April when all the polls were showing Kasich with a massive lead, if Strickland continues to hammer Kasich on his past, his record, and all the stupid things he's said over the years, this thing won't even be close. Personally, I'd like to see an ad that shows the interview where Kasich's running mate (supposedly the top accountant in the State) is asked how Kasich intends to fill the $4 billion hole in the budget, and she DIDN'T KNOW. She literally had NO ANSWER. And this is all BEFORE Santa Claus Kasich swoops in and eliminates Ohio's State Income Tax.

If you thought Taft was a nightmare, this guy will make you wistful for the days when Taft was Governor.
