O'Donnell complains of 'character assassination'
Newark, Delaware (CNN) -- Delaware Republican Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell is asking voters to give her a second look. At a candidate forum sponsored by a group of local Republicans, O'Donnell blamed her campaign's recent troubles on unfair coverage in the "liberal media."

"I've put my name on the line. And I've taken a lot of hits ... a lot of character assassination," O'Donnell said.

A local GOP leader moderated Wednesday night's tightly controlled event, asking the candidate her positions on taxes, spending and the new health care law. O'Donnell did take a few questions from the audience. But she left the forum via a back door and did not stop for interviews with reporters.

O'Donnell has made fewer public appearances since her stunning Tea Party-backed win in the Republican primary three weeks ago. But just days after her victory, HBO comedian Bill Maher unearthed an embarrassing video clip of
O'Donnell admitting she had once "dabbled in witchcraft."

9. When your candidate lacks any real life experience that's about all we have to critique her with
Perhaps O'Donnell should have started local with an elected position and build her way into running for the US Senate. But not only does this woman have absolutely NO political experience she actually has very little real life work history too.

Think about it. When we vote we put trust that the person, if elected, will do the things they claimed they would do during the campaign. And the only way to gauge the trust in that person is by their history - what prior work experience do they have? What prior volunteer history do they have? What kind of education do they have? Have they been honest about these things they have shown us.

O'Donnell has very little work history - she's been a free lance minor league talking head that got some fame doing talk shows with Bill Maher. Her volunteer work has been with obscure religious organizations that were opposed to sex & masturabation. And she liked about most of her college education. Because she has no experience whatsoever I have no choice but to base my voting decision on what she has done - which is pretty much lie and make a fool of herself.

Now Coons has some minor skeletons in his closet, mainly a satire paper he wrote in college that republicans are trying to make as a dealbreaker (it's failing). But he's got degrees from Amherst and Yale. He has RL work experience with WLGore and he's been an elected official running New Castle County. Some have pointed out that he has raised taxes in New Castle County but overall our county has a balanced budget even in economic downturns.

I hope this is the last election we'll see of Christine O'Donnell - she is a fool and it's her fault along with the tea party crazies that supported her.

11. I was wondering about that paper.
I know that Coons has given the back story on it and it seemed reasonable.

I haven't heard the press really pushing it so I figure it's been a non-issue for the people that will actually vote in that election.

That said, the practice seems to now be to run a scathing advert on the eve of a debate so that it becomes one of the major talking points. Given what O'Donnell did to Castle re: the homosexuality spot I would think something is coming next week from her camp before the debate.

16. That's the ONLY thing they have with Coons
Edited on Thu Oct-07-10 01:36 PM by LynneSin
This guy is about as clean cut as they get. And since O'Donnell has no record whatsoever on ANYTHING other than lying and thieving - her campaign has to take what it can get.

I hope that Coons calls her on the personal attack if she goes after that paper. Seriously, O'Donnell claims all those stupid quotes she's made was her past and that she is "Not a Witch". Well if O'Donnell can insist on a free pass of her history then I think Coons should demand the same and say "Hey, I'm not a Bearded Marxist either".

If you ever met Chris Coons he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. I saw photos of his family, his boys have the same ginger red hair color he has. (are there any other redheads in the Senate?).

Personally if I had to say who was the 'good Christian' of the 2 candidates Coons would win hands down. He's humble, he has spent years reaching out to others including stints over in Africa and he doesn't lie. The thing with Coons is he won't harp about being a Christian because true Christians are more about actions and not words.

14. That's a good point - "put your man pants on" is a quasi-homophobic attack.
She has some nerve saying that video clips of her prior public appearances amount to character assassination. :eyes:

20. she's copped everything from Palin including the "personal attacks" strategy
It was pretty ballsy for Palin to cry about personal attacks while she threw them at Obama non-stop during the campaign.

It's even more so for O'Donnell to do it given that her campaign against Castle was pretty much nothing but personal attacks.

Apparently though, if you're a P(olitician)ILF though you can pretty much not worry about the press calling you out on it.

19. She said that to Mike Castle, someone who has a distinguished 40 years serving Delaware
Someone who would have easily won the general election because he reaches out to Delawareans, not just republicans or democrats.

I have never voted for Castle because I am a diehard democrat but I have alot of respect for the guy. A total class act.

21. "...character assassination..."
In her circumstance I would call it character suicide.

She's the one who 'dabbled', some how knows masturbation requires lust, went to Oxford, and announced she is 'not a witch' but happens to be just like me??? I don't think so.

She has managed to do all this by herself. And she is a continual candidate for whatever is available. She's palin on the bargain table at 50% off.

28. Picture This
I see a cloaked man enter an old smoky tavern in the middle of NoWhere USA. After looking around, he heads to a back room where a single man is eating. The boss man looks up and smiles, "So, what have you brought me today?"

The cloaked man puts down a stack of photos, with associated papers. "Work's bad these days. The Tea Party crap is making every idiot out there a character assassin."

"Yeah, I know," the boss man whispers as he goes through the photos. "I can't give you much. This is all crap, but for you, I'll pay twice what they're worth." He then spies the last photo and shakes his head. "I can't give you anything for this one."
"Why?"
"You didn't do any work on this," the boss laughs, "You walk into the State and she flew her broom onto your pen!"
