"Ground Zero Mosque" blogger calls for boycott of Campbell's following launch of "Halal soups"

Campbell's Soup surrenders to Islamic juggernaut

By Justin Elliott

http://www.salon.com/news/islam/index.html?story=/politics/war_room/2010/10/07/campbells_surrenders_to_islam

Via Rachel Slajda at TPM: The anti-Islam wing of the conservative movement is setting its sights on Campbell's Canada's now year-old decision to release a line of Halal-certified soups and broths.

Pamela Geller, the blogger who is largely responsible for whipping up the "ground zero mosque" story (which also went unnoticed for nearly a year before it became a national controversy), has a post up on Campbell's titled, "M-M-M-M-M-Muslim Brotherhood Good?" She calls for a boycott of the company, and there is now a Facebook boycott group with over 2,000 members.

Halal foods, of course, are merely those that hew to basic Islamic dietary laws such as a ban on pork products.

Geller and her cohort have seized on the fact that the Campbell's Halal line is certified by the Islamic Society of North America, a large and mainstream Muslim umbrella group. It clearly denounces terrorism and has widespread support among non-Muslim religious and political leaders. But according to Geller, ISNA is "Hamas-linked." So if you buy Campbell's soup, you, too, are now Hamas-linked, and may be charged with material support for terrorism.

Also, we've reached out to comment from Campbell's on this, and we'll update this post when we hear back.

12. It's not - guess who is "next"?

Once these Christian Americans get rid of Muslims, then getting rid of Jews is not far behind.

8. Oh good fucking grief. I can't even tell if that's a Photoshop or a real soup label.
It reminds me of the old "Cream of SPAM" picture (parody of the Andy Warhol work).

9. That woman is mentally ill, I'm convinced of it.
She's the same person who convinced Dunkin' Donuts to drop Rachel Ray as a spokesperson because she wore a scarf that bore a vague resemblence a kaffiyeh.

10. Who the hell EDITS Salon, anyway?
"We've REACHED OUT TO COMMENT from Campbell's on this....?!??!!"

First of all, what's with "reached out?" Does no one say "we talked to" or "we asked" or "we got in touch with " anymore? And then..."to comment from Campbell's?". HUH?
I'm sorry. I allowed my grammar snark instincts to get in the way of your post. I think the Halal graphic is very nice. And I often buy Kosher foods when I can find them.
This is outright bigotry, and this Pamela Geller person is a real piece of work. I'm going to go out and stock up on Campbell's.

17. They seem totally immune to their own contradictions and hypocrisy.
It's quite extraordinary, actually. This is an opportunity to witness an extreme example of the human ability to hold conflicting ideas in one's mind without resolving, or even noticing, the fact that some of the ideas are in direct contradiction with others. This is what allows the teabaggers to take public roads to a public park to protest the government, for example, or to live on the dole while clamoring for smaller government. Or, as here, to object to the workings of the free market that they normally champion.

I assure you that in the minds of conservatives, or in whatever it is they have where the rest of us have minds, there is no hypocrisy at all. They leave that for us libtards.

18. Man, sometimes free speech can be a real
bitch...

Could she be any more petty - while whipping up anger in so many people about the dumbest things, things that by the way are none of her business...
