Michigan Dem gubernatorial candidate Virg Bernero blasts banks in a room full of Banksters
from the Detroit Free Press:

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Virg Bernero stunned the Detroit Economic Club today with his forceful challenge to banks to halt home foreclosures in Michigan, and his call for the attorney general to investigate illegal foreclosures.

Bernero followed the more conciliatory Republican candidate Rick Snyder in answering questions in a forum three days before their first — and probably only — televised debate.

“If you are part of the Wall Street breed that runs over people for ever-growing profits and growing bonuses, you will have a problem, because I’ve had it,” Bernero said in his opening statement to a stony business crowd. “We’re up to here with it. Enough is enough.”

Bernero said news that some banks around the U.S. have erroneously foreclosed on homes or unwisely issued mortgage loans in the first place should prod Michigan to follow other states and block foreclosure proceedings or give homeowners a stronger hand to negotiate with banks.

Bernero said a priority as governor would be to withdraw $1 billion in state money from J.P. Morgan and Chase banks for their refusal to ease up on foreclosures and invest the money in Michigan-based banks and credit unions. ..........(more)

2. The "stony business crowd"
I'd like to know, directly from the banksters in the room, how they think that fraudulent and illegal foreclosures is good for their industry. Obviously, it advances the bottom line temporarily. But what does it do to the public image of banks? Is it good for the profession as a whole?

It's certainly not much fun to contemplate the incredible mess the banks created for themselves in the last decade, but denying the problem and kicking the can down the road aren't very good strategies for dealing with the mess. Sooner or later, all these properties are going to have to have their titles cleared so that they can be saleable assets again. Nobody's going to want to buy a property if they aren't confident they can get clear title to it, and the folks who are in very good position to do something about that are the banksters.

Snyder may tell the banksters what they'd like to hear; Bernero is telling them what they need to hear.

4. That Rick Snyder is a piece of work
He has not established his position on just what cuts he would make when he says "cut spending"
He is pro life with no exceptions.
He refuses to answer direct questions when we ask about Detroit's relationship with the state Capitol.
He is prepared to put a halt to our new movie making industry.
He is about lifting regulations on certain kinds of businesses.
He does not believe in unions.
He does believe in outsourcing of jobs.
He does believe in limited Government despite the fact he is running for office.
He also is keeping himself away from the media that is unfriendly to his cause. He has been handled by the repugs and they are surrounding him like a fox in a hen house.
He is trying to control all aspects of debates and questions.
He won't answer any questions on social issues.
They are working the rural area and repug districts.
All MICHIGANDERS PLEASE BEWARE OF THE NERD RICK SNYDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. Yes he is
Although you have one thing wrong. He does believe abortion should be an option in cases of rape, incest, or for the life of the mother.

Voters should be worried about Snyder's level of secrecy. He wants to increase funding for tourism, roads, schools, and communities but won't say how he'll pay for it. His "10 point plan" is nothing but vague talking points. He has no real plan (at least not one he's willing to share) and will govern on behave of his corporate buddies.

I don't understand his position on the film incentives. He wants to destroy a growing industry and send the jobs elsewhere. How could anyone vote for a candidate who is campaigning on the elimination of jobs from Michigan?

I hope Bernero does well in the debate this Sunday. It will likely be the last opportunity to change the course of this election.

8. I apologize for the
no exception. His position didn't get clarified until a couple of weeks ago. Which is what made me believe that he was for no exceptions. The repug format is trying to change right before our eyes.

Yes Mr. Snyder is being very secretive. He knows if he has to open his mouth and talk it would hurt his chances of winning. The republicans are isolating their candidates with great fury this election.

They have been infiltrating our urban neighborhoods with African american repugs. I don't know why but they believe that since the President got elected that black people will vote for a candidate just because he is black    They have capitalized on this recession and paying these young men fifty dollars to pass out their literature.

Rick Snyder sent out a flyer with the repug slate. Posted in DU Michigan. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=159x14634 Make sure you tell family and friends to send for their absentee ballots and they can vote from the comfort of their home without any pressure. My friends and I have an "ask ten" strategy going. We counted the people that are around us on a regular basis and found that there are at least ten people in your immediate circle. Grown children, sisters, brothers, parents, friends, etc. Ask Ten.

9. What ever happened to Gateway's American jobs?
Someone should ask that of Snyder, because he's responsible for getting rid of them.
