Athletes' Condoms Clog Pipes in India

http://www.newser.com/story/102424/commonwealth-drains-clogged-by-condoms.html

Commonwealth Games dealing with yet another problem

Apparently world-class athletes have a lot of sex. Following the latest challenges for the Commonwealth Games in India—including sub-par construction, security concerns, worries about dengue fever, snakes in hiding, and menacing monkeys—the latest is that the plumbing is becoming stopped up with condoms, reports Reuters.

"It shows that there is use of condoms and I think that is a very positive story," says Games chief Mike Fennell. About 8,000 condoms were provided to athletes, and already half have been used—and flushed down toilets during the first week. But that's nothing. After the decision in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics to provide condoms to athletes, the numbers have been rising. About 100,000 were provided in Beijing in 2008 and in this year's Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

2. I am glad they are using them...
I just don't see why they don't put them in the trash.

3. Maybe they are having sex and want to keep that "activity" private....
Roommate comes into the room and sees used nasty condoms in the trash can...

6. Then they can wrap them in toilet paper and trash them if they're so obsessive
Only a fool would flush condoms down the toilet.

13. Used condoms are a biohazard.
They should never be placed anywhere that might cause them to come into contact with another human being. That INCLUDES the hotel cleaning staff.

Condoms should be flushed, because it's the only way to dispose of them that eliminates the chance of human contact.

5. With three generations of plumbers behind me, I will lay the blame with New Delhi.
Condoms, and frankly far worse items, have been inappropriately flushed down toilets in this country for decades without backing up, thanks to reasonable plumbing codes in US municipalities, surrounding notions of pipe diameter, number and angle of turns, and steepness of waste pipes along their runs.

Yes, they shouldn't flush their condoms. But this says more about New Delhi to me.

7. These games have clearly demonstrated why India is failing despite the trillion$ that
have been poured into their low-wage, no law nation.

They never has any equality and therefore there was no 'float' to hide the results of the one-way social model. We made a few more billionaires while things got even worse for the unfortunates.

8. It must be the foreign athletes
India once rejected an aid shipment of standard-sized condoms because...

...they were too large for most Indian men.

Seriesly.

10. I've heard that there is a TON of sex for athletes during games because they have a bunch of pent up
energy to release, and this is one of the common ways.

Plus, all those amazing bodies they have...

14. When I was in China in 1990, you could not flush toilet paper unless you were in a
Western-owned hotel with reliable plumbing.

There was a wastebasket next to the toilet. (Yes, and it was some lucky person's job to empty those wastebaskets every day.)

16. I had the same experience in Mexico.
I still find recent immigrants tossing used TP in the trash in our public restroom.
