Mel Gibson's ex-girlfriend claims he pulled gun on her after alleged assault

Mel Gibson’s former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva claims in a video segment of her interview with People Magazine that after the star allegedly hit her last January, the actor pulled out a gun and she feared he would kill her and her children.

Grigorieva says the incident in which she alleges Gibson hit her in the face on Jan. 6 at his Malibu mansion was witnessed by her 13-year-old son and their 1-year-old daughter, Lucia.

The son, according to law enforcement sources, is among the key witnesses in the domestic violence investigation.

Sheriff’s detectives have already turned over to prosecutors the results of a domestic violence investigation. A separate probe into whether Grigorieva used audio tapes of phone calls by Gibson to try to extort a multimillion-dollar payment is ongoing.

I've heard so many times "it takes two" in cases of domestic violence. Which is most often COMPLETELY false, and it never fails to p* me off. If someone can't control themselves and chooses to inflict harm, they have no business being in any relationship.

This type of narrative has to change before the numbers will.. This dismissing the victim as deserving of the abuse, etc., only serves to frame abuse as acceptable on some level.. Mel comes off as an alcoholic, narcissistic, violent misogynist.. what's to say he won't go full Phil Spector or OJ Simpson on some woman, someday? Thousands of women are beaten and abused in every way possible, every single day, in this country.

According to DOJ stats, on average three women a day are murdered by a spouse or partner..
I have posted this comment before, but it bears repeating every time this kind of dismissive crap pops up.. If, everyday in the US, three of any other group (insert race, religion, sexual preference here) were dying, as a result of this kind of hate crime, because that's exactly what it is, the outcry in this country might be deafening.. It's time to make changes in the way we think and speak of any kind of domestic abuse. That's where the change begins.

12. Yes, I've recently learned, from someone very close no less, that asking a

question of a man with a violent temper who has had a drink or two could be legitimate grounds for a beating. The 'takes two' part obviously includes using one's voice as a weapon. No-one knows what goes on behind closed doors, but so many are willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the beater. After all, there has to be a reason for them to act the way they do. Bullshit.

a taboo subject? I have, whether I'm mistaken or not, it seems there are always those ready and willing to justify it. Having escaped it myself, and working in womens' shelters listening to hundreds of stories, quite often the only catalyst to it were things that 'healthy' relationships deemed crucial in maintaining communication. However, in the cases of battered women, that communication, no matter how mild, or meek - as taught they should be to prevent abuse, was what 'set him / and in lesser cases - her/ off. I've seen cases of mothers defending it, urging daughters to return, as they have no expectations or seem to place very little value in their own daughters, children hoping for reconciliation, despite seeing horror no child should see. It baffles me. When did women become so dispensable to society?
