Why do Ayn Rand libertarian freaks keep threatening to "Go Galt"?
Please really do leave...and shut up! Go form some real-life Galt's Gulch in Eastern Siberia or Southwestern Mongolia. Just anywhere far from the rest of mankind.

The rest of us will do quite well (actually much better) without these self-proclaimed "elite" idiots around.

1. Because they are idiots who can't see past the tip of their own nose
Let em move to such small govt/low tax havens as Haiti and Somalia, those not macheted for pasty white flesh will return to the US and embrace the social safety net.

8. HAHAHAHA!! Welcome to DU
If the Randian "elite," the overpaid, coddled pink men who move money around to try to make their numbers bigger, all went "Galt," no one would ever miss them. Subordinates would do what little useful work they did and much of the useless work and the planet would continue to rotate around its axis.

Now if the people Rand despised, the people who pick up the garbage, run the sewage treatment plants, wipe asses in the hospitals, teach unruly brats, and do all the grunt work of this country went on strike, this country would grind to a halt in days, possibly in hours.

"Going Galt," my flabby old ass. I wish they would, then we'd be rid of them.

3. It's part of their self delusion - they really think that they are the economic and
innovative engine of the US. Just like so many freeper-types believe that they are (or will be) 'the rich.' It would be sad if it wasn't so damaging...

20. They don't know how to go Galt.
To be an individual, you need everybody else to do it too.

27. then they'd have to do without their slaves. they like to talk about it but actually
doing it is something else.

without his money, bill gates would be an out-of-shape middle-aged pasty white guy with glasses. what's he going to do if he "goes galt"?

doubt he could walk five miles without getting tired.

to actually have the right to destroy it? From all I see all they do is bitch and complain.

as I remember didn't John Galt disappear because he couldn't get a job, because no one understood him? So maybe they should Go Galt...

10. Labor existed LONG before capitalism
We could live on labor alone if need be. And Lord knows, we have enough surplus workers to start a Labor economy.

NOBODY needs an arbitrage trader in order to survive.

11. we have a guy running for tax assessor that used to be
the superintendent of parks. he is an independent running against one of the crookedest pols in cook county. i was inclined to like the guy, tho i had my beefs. the local dfa had supported him in an earlier race. but i found out he used to have a framed ayn rand poster in his office at the parks dept.
i'll vote for him because the other guy is worse, and i know he doesn't have a prayer. but i knew there was something i didn't like about the guy.

thom hartmann has a clown from the ayn rand institute on i think every monday. always entertaining.

15. Because deep in their beady little hearts
they know they cannot actually do it. Thus, threats are all they have.

Although it does occur to me that some of them actually do have a wierd, twisted follow through now. The big corps are holding the cash and keeping the economy down right now. They just need to take the next step, and go somewhere else so that we have the chance to fix things in their absence

federally funded relocation program for the non-sociopathic residents first, of course.

18. I am 100% against censorship, but I want to meet the editor who decided ............
to publish Ayn Rand's garbage. I want to know what in the hell he was thinking when he decided to give a self indulgent air head actual dollars in return for thousands of pages of a poorly written diatribe.

23. It's funny, I remember a speaking panel on Ayn Rand covered by C-Span
It may not have been solely about her, but it dealt with her quite a bit, and the people who were talking about her were actual academics, not Rand fan boys (and girls). Anyways, after eviscerating her for her poor understanding of some of the ideas she criticized, one very pissed off Randian in the audience stood up in the question and answer section and declared that, and of course I'm paraphrasing, it was the genius of Rand that she didn't have to read the entire books that philosophers wrote in order to understand them. She was just that smart.

24. Ayn Rand's economics newsletter writer Allan Greenspan should have ended the 'objectiveist' conversa
conversation once and for all

we gave her number 1 deciple the keys to the universe from President Ford to Bush 2 and we're wondering if we'll survive it

we've been test driving her philosophy for decades
