Don't let up.

The foreign contributions to the Chamber of Commerce story needs to continue to be hammered.

As an added bonus... anything that gets Karl Rove in the news cycle is good for Democrats.

1. Indeed
This should have been hammered at since 2008, and needs to be hammered until 2012. Granted, if things were carried to their logical conclusion, Karl Rove would be getting the Gallows for treason, but sadly, the American people don't have the stomach (and a few other glands) for it.

2. Karl Rove being in the news is definitely good news for us.
Seeing Karl Rove reminds Americans of the eight horrible years we all suffered under Dumbya... I hope Rove keeps running his big mouth right up until the elections. He just might be a bigger help to the Democrats than he thinks.

Now there must be a way to get Cheney to open his mouth.

7. Foreign contributions? It appears that the CoC actively solicited foreign money.

MoveOn Asks DoJ To Launch Criminal Investigation Of Chamber's Funding (HuffPo)

MoveOn's pitch to DoJ contains an important bit of nuance. In addition to alleging that foreign contributors are funding the Chamber illegally, the group argues that the business lobby is also illegally recruiting these donations.

" 'T'he Chamber," writes Justin Ruben, MoveOn's Executive Director, "has dispatched former Ambassador Frank Lavin to speak before foreign Chamber affiliates about what is at stake for business in the 2010 midterm elections. If, as it appears, the Chamber is soliciting contributions from foreign corporations and foreign nationals while communicating to them the importance of the U.S. elections, the Chamber is at least indirectly soliciting contributions from foreign nationals for use in connection with U.S. elections."

Moveon.org asks DOJ to investigate Chamber's funding (Rawstory)

In recent years, the Chamber has become very aggressive with its fundraising, opening offices abroad and helping to found foreign chapters (known as Business Councils or "AmChams"). While many of these foreign operations include American businesses with interests overseas, the Chamber has also spearheaded an effort to raise money from foreign corporations, including ones controlled by foreign governments. These foreign members of the Chamber send money either directly to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, or the foreign members fund their local Chamber, which in turn, transfers dues payments back to the Chamber’s H Street office in Washington DC.

<...>

Previously, it has been reported that foreign firms like BP, Shell Oil, and Siemens are active members of the Chamber. But on a larger scale, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce appears to rely heavily on fundraising from firms all over the world, including China, India, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Russia, and many other places. Of course, because the Chamber successfully lobbied to kill campaign finance reforms aimed at establishing transparency, the Chamber does not have to reveal any of the funding for its ad campaigns. Dues-paying members of the Chamber could potentially be sending additional funds this year to help air more attack ads against Democrats.

8. Exactly
That was exactly my thought. Anger, squirm, then flip flop. Also, did anyone notice that the chamber just recently gave a contribution to the democratic party? No doubt, just in time to say they did. Can't remember where I saw that. I am so glad they are calling these guys out. I think it is going to get really interesting in the next few weeks.

14. He's Feeling Some Heat...
...from his big roller backers. Not just the Chamberpot of Commerce but his billion dollar boys. They wanted this thing locked down by now. They're buying majorities and he isn't delivering. I'm also sure all the scrutiny he brought on those people aren't making them too happy either. Here's hoping these autocrats lose lots of money and feel its not worth it in the future.

It also makes me think the Chamber of Commerce cash is the tip of the iceberg. Let's keep hitting it.
