Obama urges crowd to show him the energy of '08 campaign

Reminding voters of their enthusiasm for his presidential campaign, the president said, "we need you as fired up as you were in 2008."

After dousing the campfire, the president now wants us back?

Those who were never fired up and ready to go for President Obama in the first place can keep whining for all I care because most self-identified liberals like me approve of the job President Obama is doing (see Gallup poll for week ending Oct. 3, 2010). We are the base that supports the Democratic Party, not those who are Perpetually Outraged.

3. Well, you just go ahead and stay home, then
Because then you'll get to indulge in your favorite activity -- complaining -- in an even bigger way. Just think how satisfying it will be when the House turns Republican and John Boehner gets to set the agenda. It's a kvetcher's paradise!

I definitely think you should stay home. Honest, if I were a Democratic candidate I wouldn't want your vote. You'd just turn around and start complaining about me.

Better yet, next time, YOU run for office.

get a grip --

deal with the message and forget the messenger --

and, btw, here's my opinion on November which obviously you missed . . .

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/defendandprotect

The message here is about Obama/Rahm/Gibbs disregard for the liberal/progressive base --

kicking it, in fact -- but suddenly he feels the need to kiss and make up.

Or are you in denial of all the anti-liberal/progressive messages?

They certainly didn't come in code ... !!

And, btw, I have run for office -- have you?

27. Actually yes
Not that it was any big deal. I ran on a slate of delegate to the state Democratic Convention (and won). That's not really an "office," but I was elected on a general election ballot. And I had to actually do something as a result of it. I took it seriously, even though I had to be begged to be on the slate.

I also served on the Town Democratic Committee for 3 years and was a founding member of my local chapter of Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts.

delegate for Jerry Brown -- and, yes, I won!

Among other things --

You can also see from my link, I'm recommending the very opposite of giving up on the

Democrats -- rather I'm arguing for blasting thru them to a more liberal/progressive

control of the party. Republicans have been targeting liberal/progressives in their

own party for decades -- and in Democratic party in getting rid of DLC and other

corporate Democrats and replacing them with liberals/progressives.

Blast thru to the left -- and then deal with our corporate Democrats ... IMO.

We also need to fight for a more responsive Democratic Party -- GOP is paying $$$ for

their demonstrations, as usual. Meanwhile Democrats have ready, willing and able

Democratic Party members who would be anxious to rally for MEDICARE FOR ALL, PUBLIC

EDUCATION, A NEW LABOR MOVEMENT --

Obama is on the other side of all of these issues -- his heart and mind are in the

wrong place and we need to change that!

4. Gee, I guess that means you don't care if the republicans take over. Perhaps you feel there is
no difference between the Democrats verses the republicans, and that is your right, but since you added a personal comment, is your point to try to convince other people at DU to feel the way you do so they might be demoralized and not vote?

Even though I am not thrilled with the way things have gone, I am not going to cut off my nose to spite my face, because I realize that things would be much worse if the republicans and teabaggers take over Congress

If you don't believe THAT premise, why waste your time here?

16. We do care ... that's why so many of us are critical of Obama's pro-corporate leanings ...
Americans supported MEDICARE FOR ALL by 76%+ and rising at the time of the vote!

Do you think they don't understand what actually happened -- the back room deals and

selling out to Big Pharma?

And presumably you missed MY actual views on November ...

Less difference -- More "nose holding" recommended --

14. It's sadly humorous to read comments here which interpret criticism as "not voting" or
"not voting for Democrats" --

People who are so frightened of criticism and so frightened of facing reality combine

this with projecting those fears onto other posters -- evidently as an automatic --

no stopping to think about it.

This push that was begun in '06 should be continued -- a push to the left knocking

out everything on the right that we can possibly knock out.

And, after that, doubling back and dealing with pro-corporate Democrats.

In effect, I will be voting for Democrats, but only as an avenue to knocking out Repugs.

That's all --

The Democratic Party quite well recognizes that reality --

That's why we don't have IRV voting, for one.

31. That's what we're here for ... debate ... not attacking posters ....
OK -- so you're saying Obama made no back room deals on health care reform to keep

health care industry -- and drugs -- privatized?

On privatizing public education and knocking out the teachers' union?

What's this . . . ?

Here is the quote: ”In a Thursday interview, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel argued that rather than recoiling against Obama,

business leaders should be grateful for his support

on at least a half-dozen counts: his advocacy of greater international trade

and education reform open markets despite union skepticism;

his rejection of calls from some quarters to nationalize banks during the financial meltdown; the rescue of the automobile industry; the fact that

the overhaul of health care preserved the private delivery system;

the fact that billions in the stimulus package benefited business with lucrative new contracts,

and that financial regulation reform will take away the uncertainty that existed with a broken, pre-crash regulatory apparatus.

http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=B2F85DDF-18...

If those comments don't make you ill, you can't read.

Btw, the quote was posted on DU by another poster on 8/12/10.

PLUS, at least three or four notorious statements from the White House -- where TWICE Speaker

Pelosi had to complain to the WH and question whether they were trying to cause Democratic

losses in November -- by Rahm, Obama himself -- and Gibbs.

Presume you can recall those on your own so I won't embarass you with a repeat of them.

Or do you want to suggest that they actually don't know what they're saying and doing?

I'm 100% behind getting Democrats elected again in November. If it's October of an even numbered year, I'm with the program.

But the president is using the wrong tactic. Make amends, don't demand. Don't minimize.

25. I don't consider what is given based on what is due to a group or person.
That is a money concept I am not part of, and is a way for some to rationalize some unjust advantage by acts of free will, not as they claim, some divine plan.

There are some that think when you volunteer, or give without contract, that you are paying them because you really owe them. They really think that. They think every good thing they can take is theres, and call people that are nice or that give suckers, really there are people like that, not that many but some, it is very sad.

They think all the nice things done for them are because they are somehow due what so many people give. It is a superiority delusion.

However many pass what they are given to other people.

Although I am not judging what people think that, but they are out there. And they will pay.
