DoD Cuts On The Way? I Sure Hope So.
unhappycamper note: Since the ‘Pentagon’ (Righthaven LLC?) has ‘requested’ that I only post one paragraph from articles on Army Times, and Airforce Times, I’ve decided to give ya’ll an unhappycamper summary of the article and a link to the OP. To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.

To read the article in the military's own words, you will need to click the link.

Read all about Fair Use here. It sure is beginning to smell like fascism.

unhappycamper summary of this article: The military has their panties in a twist that (gasp) they may be required to cut some fat pork barrel spending from the one trillion dollar military budget.

Tough noogies, guys.

Big New Push For DoD Cuts

Joined by Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon, they say the commission should look at what a press release calls “excessive defense spending” when they want to find ways to reduce the federal deficit and national debt. They plan to send the commission a letter about this on Wednesday. The Pentagon’s spending should, they argue, “be subjected to the same rigorous scrutiny that non-military spending will receive.” These cuts can be made in ways that “will not endanger national security,” according to the release.

1. Everything above and beyond a staff of 10 folks at the Pentagon is 'excessive military spending' ...

5. I'm kinda leaning towards a 70% cut.
That would put the military budget back to where it was before dickie & dubya did their things.

6. Close most overseas bases and bring our defense home -
we need them to re-build infrastructure here and stop meddling in the affairs of other nations. Rec for the OP.

7. K&R! Deficit Commission should look at the military budget first.
Especially all the war profiteering built into the decades long Cheney scheme to privatize military services.
