He's not the lone ranger; maybe he shouldn't take this so personally.

Dem candidate: DCCC canceled ads because I won't support Pelosi
By Michael O'Brien - 10/12/10 07:27 PM ET

A Democratic candidate for Congress accused the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) of pulling its support for his campaign because he said he wouldn't support Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as House Speaker.

State Sen. Roy Herron (D), who's running for the opening seat held by retiring Rep. John Tanner (D) in Tennessee's 8th congressional district, suggested the DCCC's decision to cancel ad buys in the race was tied to his refusal to back Pelosi.

"This morning The Jackson Sun reported for the first time what I’ve repeatedly told citizens: I will not vote for Nancy Pelosi for House Speaker," Herron said in a statement. "If the DCCC pulling ads is the price of independence and following my conscience, so be it. That’s the kind of congressman I’ll be."

DCCC Cuts Ad Buys In 6 Districts
October 12, 2010 4:49 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) |

By Jeremy P. Jacobs

The DCCC formalized its triage operation on Tuesday, moving money out of battleground races where it looks like Republicans have already marshaled significant leads.

In six districts -- three open seats previously held by Democrats and three with Democratic incumbents -- the DCCC has canceled its ad buys for the remainder of the cycle, according to sources in the party. The cancellations are the clearest sign yet that the Democrats view these seats as out of reach.

In another four districts, the DCCC has reduced the size of its ad buys but still has reservations made through Election Day. These adjustments are in districts where Democrats have been running behind, but are still within striking distance of their Republican opponents.

And in two more districts, the DCCC has cancelled ad reservations from a position of strength; their candidates are running well ahead of Republican nominees.

1. Rec'ed - because the Democratic Party is bigger than any one person
It's bigger than Pelosi, Reid, Emanuel, Kaine, or even Obama himself. We would do well to remember that.

5. That's the point - he IS acting like one
Independent, rational thought never hurt anyone.

Now, if it turns out that this guy is a Bart Stupak wannabee, you've got a point.

9. I think it's all a financial calculation, nothing more. Who can win?

That's who the DCCC is banking on. Conversely, whoever might not have a problem, they're getting their funding pulled also.

It's all about spending smartly, which is necessary given the gop climate of polluting this election with money from god knows where.

10. Obama definitely needs to revisit corporate contributions after November
I haven't seen much progress in that field. That SCOTUS decision could corrode America from the inside out, like some mutant king hell cancer that produces VX as a waste byproduct.

13. Two words: BULLY PULPIT
The ball is in Obama's court to motivate Congress on this issue.

14. The bully pulpit doesn't legislate either.
Only the Congress can pass laws.

It is in the Constitution and everything.

Also, with a drastically reduced majority, his bully pulpit will come with a set of mufflers. And should Republicans take over the House, he will be busy fending off every piece of Republican Bullshit they can throw. Unless Congress wishes to legislate, it will not happen.

12. It's been tried, and failed. The all-powerful SCOTUS mucked
it up again; fixing it will be difficult, though I hope not impossible.

15. Well, if it's the DSCC there is a problem,
as he's running for a US House seat (DCCC), but if he's running away from Speaker Pelosi, then for once I'm not unhappy that candidates in this state don't get much help, and I've been aggravated with Madame Speaker on occasion, but I suspect for differing reasons.

The state usually gets a pile on later.

16. Thanks, edited. Like I said, they're cutting their losses to
concentrate on races they might be able to win. This guy expects the world but didn't want to play ball. Too bad. Apparently he wasn't doing that well to begin with.

6. Is the DCCC really necessary?
Do they really advance progressive causes?

I'm no big fan of Pelosi, but is it wise to send such a message to her opponents?

And since when do the DCCC consider themselves "the official Democrats"? Or is that really the case?

8. Maybe he thinks he can win by being the lone wolf and disassociating himself from Pellosi.
I feel bad for those who are running and believe it isn't over until it is over and yet it seems the party has deserted them.

17. He's threatening to desert the party

Dems in Tennessee are afraid of Christian White people who hate gays, people of color and uppity wymmins.

They have to suck up to the bigots, the homophobes and the teabaggers, since the Tennessee legislature has disenfranchised so many poor, liberal Dems.

Only in Memphis and Nashville do you see a significant number of Progressives. Elsewhere in TN, the Dems are scared to death that all the Good White Christian people might believe their assholes don't smell like lily petals.

They'd sell their own children into slavery if it would make them appear as conservative as the Repukes.
