But on their video it says: Mario Seplveda.

That whistle sound (sounds like a car alarm) that is supposed to go off when a miner reaches the surface just went off again prematurely. They need to put a different person on that button! ;)

The wife first found out about the mistress when the mistress was there calling out the guy's name during a vigil there at Camp Hope.
So, now the wife has refused to show up for the rescue.

Here's the beginning of what happened: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x9065773

80. I'm hoping that they keep remembering to latch that door ;)
I guess they sent down 4 rescue guys so that they could have 2 shifts of 2 guys on each shift.
If the whole process keeps the same time schedule, with no arising problems, then it should take around 37 hours total.

making a lot more noise than before when a person was in it.
I hope they do a closer inspection of the wheels etc.
They really need that bag of sand in there!

83. I can try. It's not the worst thing that could happen. All things considered.
These guys (and workers around the world) should know that people everywhere are watching and care. It's a little gesture, but who knows, sometimes the world needs a kick in the ass like this to get people to wake up?

I can dream.

a brief minute or so clip when they arrive at the hospital (after the helicopter ride) and are taken into a room where a couple of additional family members are waiting for them.
Two of the miners have arrived so far.

I still think that if they put a sand bag in the capsule when it goes down empty it would help the wheels from banging around.

Anyone else still here awake with me? :)

Edited to add:
The next miner to come up #6 Osman Araya, age 30, has been on a liquid diet due to dental pain.
I guess we are now going to see the people that have medical problems coming up.

Watching live from Chile. We have family in Chile (two daughters), one in the Puerto Montt region, the other in Santiago.

http://33mineros-4.13.cl/

Avalos and Sepulveda were flown by helicopter to an army base in Copiapo and from there taken by ambulance to a waiting hospital.

Sepulveda gave a television interview in which he asked that the miners not be treated as stars.

Edit to add: Final miner and the four-man rescue team now expected to be out at 9 a.m. on Thursday Chilean time.

Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 03:19 AM by Tx4obama
The capsule is going down to get the 6th miner to bring up.
FIVE miners have come out so far.
There are also FOUR rescue workers down there now.

Edited to add:
The next miners that will be brought out are the ones with medical problems, such as dental pain, diabetes, heart problems, etc.

91. Thanks for information
I didn't remember it was making so much noise before I had gone to bed. It sounded kind of scary. I didn't think we would even be able to hear it, considering how far down it is.

They haven't had any problems so far, have they? For six of them to be up already the operation must be moving smoothly.

92. Well...
Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 03:27 AM by Tx4obama
when they first did the test runs (before anyone was in the capsule) there was a lot of banging.
Then when the four rescuers were being sent down and the five miners were brought up there was no noise,
but now they are sending the capsule down empty so the noise is back again.
After the FIFTH miner was brought up they did an inspection and changed the wheels.

Edited to add:
I just heard some noise, but there is supposed to be a miner in the capsule now... so I don't know what's up with that!
Maybe they have the microphone turned up.
I am assuming that we can heard the banging because it is metal hitting metal inside of a tube, so the sound waves would sorta echo/vibrate.

it was taking around 15 mins then it was closer to 20 because of the wheels wearing out, but now that they replaced the wheels they said it should be faster again and closer to the 15 mins.

They need to put a big sand bag in the capsule when it goes down empty so that it doesn't bang so much!

95. Update: The 6th miner is out.
Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 04:31 AM by Tx4obama
The next miner #7 will be Jose Ojeda, 46 years old, suffering from diabetes.

================

Scorecard tally:

33 miners trapped
4 rescue workers lowered into mine
6 miners rescued
Total now below ground: 31

p.s. The 'underground' number on the front page of CNN.com does not include the rescue workers.

p.s.s.
Miner #2 handed out rocks that he brought from below and shook hands with folks at the barrier fence and led the 'chile' chant. He is also the miner that talked at the hospital in the family holding room - he gave quite a long speech in front of the media cameras.
Miner #4 is from Bolivia, the only miner not a Chilean, and also the only miner that will have a private room at the hospital.
Miner #5 is the youngest miner, age 19, he has a girlfriend he has proposed that he has a baby with.
Miner #6 has dental pain, first of the miners with medical problems to come up, and a wife & four children.
Miner #7 has diabetes.
NOTE: later today --> Miner #21 Yonnie is the miner that has both a wife & a mistress waiting for him to come up (see the links up-thread regarding that story!} Miner #22 Samuel Avalos is the brother of the 1st miner that came out of the mine. And Miner #32 Mr. Ticonia is the man that has the new baby that he has not yet held that was born while he was underground.

WATCH THE WHEEL. When the wheel is going COUNTER-clockwise the capsule is going 'down' the hole. When the wheel is going clockwise the capsule is coming UP the hole.

The President and First Lady of Chile are no longer in the receiving line.
The President said he wanted to hug each miner as they came up above ground, but he was on site around 3pm and I'm sure he needed to go and get some sleep. Maybe he will return later or show up at the hospital later in the day to greet the miners that he missed while asleep.

they are saying this one is the one that had the baby while underground, but that is NOT correct - it's #32 Ariel Ticona that has the baby he hasn't seen yet.

Miner #8, Claudio Yanez, has a girlfriend that has two of his kids and she proposed TO HIM while he was underground.

Not much new. They did an inspection and replaced the wheels on the capsule after #5 miner surfaced.

p.s. The whistle (that sounds like a car alarm) that they are supposed to blow when a miner surfaces is pissing me off - it has been going off a bunch of times BEFORE any one has come up ;)

CNN started doing coverage before MSNBC. MSNBC ran Keith and Rachel while CNN was doing live coverage of the rescue. I normally watch MSNBC but last night I switched over to CNN - I think a bunch of folks probably did. I've been online streaming CNN and only every now and again flipping the TV over to MSNBC.
I love MSNBC in the evenings - but CNN seems to always be the best for LIVE coverage of 'breaking events' ;)

When MoJo showed it, everyone slammed Brown for not handling the issue well, but they completely ignored Whitman's saying it wasn't the same thing when her campaign manager used the same term (with the audience bursting into laughter).

They explained that Joe S. is absent because he went to be with his father, now hospitalized again in FL.

..."Way Too Early," which precedes MoJo. No one mentioned Whitman's argument that Wilson using the same term was 'different,' though that was also part of the clip that aired.

My impression is that Joe won't be around much longer. His radio show is expanding (or already has), IIRC. These days, he seems to spend most of his time just goofing around on the TV show. They do have some good guests (along with the bad).

I think that maybe they are getting a little bit too over confident.

in a red jacket into the capsule and was wondering why they keep sending more rescue workers down.

How many of those guys do they need down there? That capsule already seems the worse for wear. Kinda worries me.

edit> I see you answered my question. Thanks.

138. I just logged on this morning and they're sending down another rescue worker...Can someone explain
How many rescue workers have they sent down so far? Seems like they don't need more than 2 or 3 in the mine.

139. A total of FIVE rescuers are now down in the mine.
They sent down four a long time ago.
This new one #5 was a big surprise seeing him going down there.
It will take around 37 hours total to get everyone out, so they will probably run 2 shifts of workers.

142. Or maybe they decided that they need 6 ppl for 3 shifts.
I don't know.
But I think they are getting too many 'new' ppl down there.

143. The video in the middle of the night was better....
they showed the 'wheel' more and not as much of the 'bigwigs' that they're showing this morning.

145. I just noticed that. Sure it gets dull from time to time but I can see
big political shots talk anytime I want! It's not often I can see a triumph of engineering, medical science, rescue science, and possibly another intervention in one place at one time!

144. I kind of wish they'd allow the families more physical space. I understand that med/rescue officials
need to stand by, but I'm selfish and just want to enjoy the spontaneous joy of the families without it being tempered by the officials.

I know, I'm bad.
