Doesn't it sound awfully risky to have oxygen in that rescue capsule?

Oxygen, metal, scraping against rock.

I dunno, it just sounds scary as SHIT to me!

7. If it were me, I'd ask them to anesthetize me and forego the oxygen.

Of course, I guess I hadn't thought about needing minimal oxygen. Hmmm, I was thinking they were using it to prevent panic or something... good point about how there's a lack of oxygen in rock.

9. If it were me...I wouldn't be down there in the first place.

God bless those guys. I greatly admire the courage those miners have, that's for sure. I'd never have the guts to go down in a mine.

Yeah, its what, a 15 minute trip up...they would most likely need supplemental O2.

8. Oxygen is not flammable

Ask any oxy-acetylene welder. Oxygen helps things to burn, obviously, it's needed for things to burn because burning is oxygenating, but oxygen cannot oxygenate, so it is not flammable. However, of course, the methane or coal gas in the tunnel would love to oxygenate with the oxygen, but as long as it is contained, there is not really a problem.

Oxygen is not flammable, it's an oxidant. For oxygen to be a danger you need a fuel.
