Evacuee number 21, Yonni Barrios, is one stylin' guy!
He invited both his wife of 27 years and his mistress of 10 years to greet him on his arrival.

The wife chose not to participate.

10. Now I don't think the blonde lady was either one. It may have been his sister.

6. The MSNBC.com video had the title 'esposa' on the screen. That's 'wife'.

11. Often , they are wrong..
The report said the wife was "boycotting" his rescue...

That said, MANY countries "accept" the fact that some men will have mistresses. The wife probably wants to steer clear of the drama of it all.. Perhaps they will stay married..perhaps not.. The affair is a 10 yr relationship, so the wife probably "knows" or suspected it at the very least. many cultures are not as puritanical as ours has become. In a Catholic nation, divorce is often not an option, so many couples just live estranged lives.
The personal lives of these men became "news" when they got trapped/saved. Minus that, no one would know or care.

13. I don't know in which country mistresses are "accepted", but Chile is not one of them
The first lady supported the wife and so does the nation. The wife didn't go out of dignity. If you noticed their miting was akward, and not many people seemed to warm towards her.

17. Regardless, it's HIS problem
and his wife & mistress' problem.. I hope the press backs off..it's none of our business & I'm not interested in it. I just want to see them all up & safe & then the real struggle can begin.. that would be making mining safer.

12. The live narrator on site for MSNBC, Natalie Moralez, said she was the mistress.
She said he is estranged from the wife and that the wife was not participating in this event.

That's all I've got to go on, what she said on teevee.

And actually, I kinda don't care. My comment was more to the fact that the miner is said to have invited them both to the rescue site. That's what I was referring to as "stylin'"

7. CNN was just explaining that divorce in Chile is very difficult to
obtain, i.e. having a mistress or mistresses is not all that terribly unusual. Mostly a Catholic country, the Church doesn't condone divorce so you have to take on a mistress. Stupid...

14. That's absurd. I know many Catholics in Latin America who divorce and re-marry
They just do it outside the Church.

Just like many choose to have two or three children, regardless of what the church says.

20. Chile legalized divorce only in 2004

and of course the Catholic Church threw a hissy fit.

----------------------------------

Chile introduces right to divorce

Chile has become one of the last countries in the world to grant married couples the right to divorce.
The law which makes divorce legal was introduced in April but only comes into effect on Thursday.

The BBC's Chile correspondent says the law has overwhelming public support, and President Ricardo Lagos has described it as a major step forward.

But the Roman Catholic Church has warned it is a threat to the stability of marriage, and to the family.

The Church also argues that the separation periods before a divorce can be granted are too short.

Under the new law that overruns the 1884 marriage code, a couple may divorce a year after separating if both partners agree to split up. If one partner disagrees, a divorce is allowed after three years.

16. Here's what the wife had to say
Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 03:46 PM by lunamagica
"Es un milagro de Dios, pero yo no voy a ir a ver el rescate. El me lo pidió, pero resulta que también invitó a la otra señora con la que está ahora y yo tengo decencia. La cosa es clara: ella o yo", dijo.

"It's a miracle from God, but I'm not going to see the rescue. He asked me to go, but he also asked the other lady he's with now and I have decency (morals). Things are clear: is either her or me"

"Ni por la tele lo voy a mirar" "para "mí es suficiente saber que él está bien".

"I wont even watch on TV" "To me it is enough to know he's OK"
