House Democrats Call For $250 Social Security Boost
<snip>

"Some Democrats want Congress to give extra payments of $250 to elderly Social Security recipients to make up for the lack of a cost-of-living raise for the second year in a row.

The Social Security Administration is expected to announce on Friday that there will be no COLA increase for 2011. This year, according to law, Social Security retiree and disability payments weren't increased, because the consumer price index didn't rise.

Now, some Democrats say Congress should immediately authorize a $250 payment to compensate for the lack of a COLA increase. That would be similar to a one-time, $250 Social Security payment that was part of the 2009 stimulus law.

"I believe that members will be energized when we return to Washington in November to quickly pass legislation that will help seniors, who would otherwise face a second year with no increase in Social Security benefits," said Rep. Earl Pomeroy, who chairs the House Social Security Subcommittee."

2. It'd be nice if
they'd include those of us on disability, too. We're not getting a COLA, either, but didn't receive a check from the stimulus.
