Second earth will soon be needed, warns WWF
Uh0oh.

The over-use and pollution of Earth's natural resources have become so extreme that, at current rates, a second planet will be needed by 2030 to meet the world's needs, a new report warns.

The planet's 6.8 billion people were living 50% beyond Earth's sustainable means in 2007, the latest year for which figures are available, according to the biannual "Living Planet" report by WWF, a conservation group previously known as the World Wildlife Fund.

11. Planning on being around in 2030?
I will bet you a case of the beverage of your choice (soylent green, perhaps?) that this claim turns out to be bullshit.

10. As an environmentalist, I can say with certainty that the cause is not helped by unfounded hyperbole
I was active with the Rainforest Action Network in the 80s, and I remember being told with breathless certainty by several "authorities" that it was scientifically rock-solid that the Planet Earth would be uninhabitable to any life form higher than a cockroach by the year 2000.

That said, I fully support humanity expanding out in the solar system, and beyond.
