Joy Behar: Bill O'Reilly's 'Hate Speech' Why I Walked Off 'The View'
On her HLN show Thursday, Joy Behar explained to viewers why she walked off "The View" during a heated conversation with Bill O'Reilly earlier in the day.

"Today on 'The View,' Bill O'Reilly had a real pinhead moment," she said. "First he said a mosque should not be be built close to Ground Zero here in New York, and then he said this: 'Muslims killed us 9/11.'

"Well I was really angry," Behar said explaining her walk-off. "I thought he was saying something that I construe as hate speech, frankly."

Behar hosted former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura for a discussion on the situation. Ventura did not mince words when it came to O'Reilly or his Fox News colleages.

"He's a spineless puke," Ventura said of O'Reilly. "The whole Fox won't have me on. The nighttime guys. I call them the three stooges, and we all know which one's Curly. If Glenn Beck isn't Curly Howard's kid*...I view him and Hannity and them as the Three Stooges, because if they can't intimidate you, they won't have you on."

7. Jerome Lester "Jerry" Horwitz ("Curly") was a shy, sweet man who loved animals
I know it makes no sense, but while I don't particularly like the Stooges, I'm fans of the brothers. And Glen Beck sure as hell isn't a slapstick genius.

10. After Joy and Whoopi left the set . . .
It is my understanding that Barbara Walters intoned that it was wrong for people to walk away from a discussion, and that's what was wrong with America nowadays. If true, I'd have to say that Joy and Whoopi might want to have a little "thank you" chat with Barbara for siding with Billo over her co-hosts.

11. What I've noticed whenever someone has enough money to purchase healthcare
at any cost, they tend to give these guys more respect than they deserve. Whereas everyday people trying to afford such luxuries will fight these guys to the core. Whoopi and Joy tend to think about what less fortunate people are going thru.

13. If Rick Sanchez can be fired immediately for making bigoted remarks
Edited on Fri Oct-15-10 03:59 AM by Douglas Carpenter
Then Joy Behar can walk of the set when un-American scum like Bill O'Reilly tries to hijack the discussion to promote his hate-filled agenda. Barbara Walters is a disgrace for acting like hate and bigotry are legitimate points of view open to discussion while claiming opponents of hate and bigotry are what is wrong with America these days. Only now there seems to be a general consensus in polite society that openly anti-Semitic remarks are way beyond the pale - while equally hateful and bigoted remarks about Arab or Muslim people seem to be viewed in polite society of today's America as another point of view where reasonable people can disagree or even remarks to be enthusiastically applauded. However there was a time when anti-Semitic remarks just as ignorant and filled with hate as Bill O'Reilly's remarks about Muslims were considered acceptable discourse. It is no secret what that led to.

27. From your statement, Bill O'Reilly is anti-semitic (openly)
Edited on Fri Oct-15-10 04:09 PM by mrdmk
The following is from the Mirriam-Webster Dictionary:

Main Entry: Se-mit-ic
Pronunciation: se-'mi-tik also -'me-
Function:adjective
Etymology:German semitisch, from Semit, Semite Semite, probably from New Latin Semita, from Late Latin Semitic Shem
Date:1813

1 : of, relating to, or constituting a subfamily of the Afro-Asiatic language family that includes Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabic, and Amharic

2 : of, relating to, or characteristic of the Semites

3 : JEWISH

Main Entry: Sem-ite
Pronunciation:'se-,mit, especially Brit 'se-,mit
Function:noun
Etymology:French swmite, from Semitic Shem, from Late Latin, from Greek Sem, from Hebrew Shem
Date:1848

1 a : a member of any of a number of peoples of ancient southwestern Asia including the Akkadians, Phoenicians, Hebrews, and Arabs
b : a descendant of these peoples

2 : a member of a modern people speaking a Semitic language

In my world, it is hateful to paint a group of people as terrorist (murderers) based on their religion. Walking off of the set was a last act of desperation by a reasonable person. Any further discussion would have been fruitless. When having to argue an idiot, you too appear to be an idiot.

Barbara Walters took the moment and gave creditability to a baseless generality. Ms. Walters is just as much of an asshole as Mr. O'Reilly on this matter. Why these people have a bully pulpit in this society is beyond wonder and will lead to our destruction...

On edit: the usual countless mistakes. Typing is a bitch!

28. Bill O'Reilly is certainly a bigot - but the dictionary definition of anti-Semite
is:

: hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/anti-semitism

Not all words are the literal translation of the components of that word. I wouldn't personally argue the point myself. But anti-Semite or anti-Semitism does have a specific definition according various accepted dictionaries.

Suffice it to say, Bill O'Reilly is a horrible, hate-filled bigot.

clearly we are heading in the wrong direction when Barbara Walters does not defend the clearly understandable actions of her fellow hosts and instead, attempts to defend her deplorable and clarly hateful guest.

19. It wasn't a discussion.
It was idiot O'Reily spouting off a bigoted right wing talking point that he knows is not true. You cannot have a discussion when one of the participants is distorting reality and disregarding the facts. People like O'Reily and his ilk know that their arguments are crap so they make up their own facts and say them over and over again loudly and call it truth. I wouldn't have walked off myself, I probably would have smacked the shit out of him.

33. Attacking a religion is unprofessional, and if O'Reilly worked for a legitimate co. he'd be FIRED
Ass out, sad next to Rick Sanchez and I wouldn't feel sorry for him at all.

But Fox will never fire him because he's a cash cow for them that keeps making money from other dumb, old bigots like himself.

I already didn't like him, but my disgust in him has TRIPLED, not just because he's a bigot, but because of how proud and pompous he is of his bigotry. After the fact of his riveting Archie Bunker performance he's comes out smug as ever, convinced in himself that he's just so fair and smart.

http://www.popeater.com/2010/10/15/bill-oreilly-the-view-feud/

This isn't a case of two valid points of view, HIS and anyone else thinking like him is wrong: Islam is the world's 2nd biggest religion with over a billion people, almost 1 out of every 5 people alive is a Muslim and most of them are just regular people with families, friends and jobs just trying to live their lives who would never support or join Al-Qaeda. Would it be fair for all Muslims to hate all Americans or Christians because of what happened at Abu Ghraib?

They did exactly the right thing walking away because once he said that the discussion's off, he just showed his true colors, there's nothing left to say and no point in it because he's not going to listen.

As for Barbra, people should also be able to have a reasonable discussion without bigoted remarks being thrown out as fact.

18. It's not like Bill O'Reilly ever lets anyone else talk anyway. . .
I don't think I've ever seen a program with him on that didn't feature attempts by O'Reilly to talk over someone else. He reminds me of some kid who needs a parent to put their hand over his mouth for an hour so other people can say something.

29. Then Barbara called him a "Pinhead"
I know what she said after they walked off, but she then went on to let Billo know what he said and the way he said it was uncalled for. I thought she got her points across beautifully. I realize she is getting bashed for the comments she made right after the walk-off, but later on I thought she did a great job!

34. Sorry, I may be cynical, but I think it was scripted. It made great
television and all three were in all the papers. It certainly didn't hurt ratings at all. I believe that Joy and Bill would be far more comfortable having lunch together than having lunch with the folks they claim to speak for.

I don't see Joy and Whoopi doing that. They seem like frank, sincere people that wouldn't just do or say something unless there was some truth in their feeling about it.

O'Reilly's a big-mouthed douche and they're kind of anti-douche; it was just an "I can't believe you just said that!" moment, he attacked a billion people in a very racist way and all he kept saying was "well isn't it true?" just confirming his bigotry, it's no fun sitting around someone like that.
