Why Can't The United States Put Allegations of Secret US Detention Centers Behind Us?
unhappycamper note: Since the ‘Pentagon’ (Righthaven LLC?) has ‘requested’ that I only post one paragraph from articles on Army Times, and Airforce Times, I’ve decided to give ya’ll an unhappycamper summary of the article and a link to the OP. To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.

To read the article in the military's own words, you will need to click the link.

Read all about Fair Use here. It sure is beginning to smell like fascism.

unhappycamper summary of this article: Perhaps it's because we continue to have them in places we occupy.

A detainee stands inside a cell inside the U.S.-run Parwan detention facility near Bagram north of Kabul, Afghanistan. Some former detainees have said over the years that they were held at a smaller, more isolated detention center nicknamed the "Black Jail."

KABUL, Afghanistan — A report issued Thursday by a U.S. foundation details allegations of detainee abuse — some as recent as this year — from Afghans who say they were held at a secret detention center inside the main American military base in Afghanistan.

3. Close them, declassify them, compensate the victims.
Only then will we be able to get it behind us.

4. I know it's taking a bit more time on your part thanks to the government
attempting to censor you while not having a clue how these ol' tubes work, you have been spot on in your paraphrases.

Can't stop the talk if you don't stop doing the crime. And it is a crime. Illegal and immoral. Was when it started and still is. Want us to stop giving you hell about them? Close them.

5. i will wager it's because they have contracted this out to private corps
and there's still too much cash to be made.

I spoke to my friend who was an MP during VietNam,and he stated that regular Army wouldn't have commited a lot of the Abu Ghrab crap, but that these duties had been turfed to Army Reservists with little law enforcement background,as the regulars had to do infantry. Now that the troops are thinning out more,I'm sure it is a job largely done by private contractors(they keep their mouths shut)

8. Yep, Bagram AFB.
It's been in business for a long while. That's why I couldn't get too worked up over the Obama promise to close Gitmo, he still has Bagram to fall back on.

The atrocities being done at Bagram has been known for years, but they don't get the publicity that Gitmo and Abu Ghraib got. Frankly I think that Bagram is like a fall back position for American torture. If they get caught at Gitmo or Abu Ghraib or elsewhere, well, they always have Bagram AFB to ship people off to, never to be seen again.

This has needed to end for years. Nice to see it's getting a little publicity, but until we see the sort of sustained outrage we saw of Abu Ghraib and Gitmo, the torture is simply going to continue.
