Tides Foundation CEO To Fox News Advertisers: Drop Glenn Beck Or Have Blood On Your Hands
In an extraordinary move to nip the inflammatory commentary coming from Glenn Beck, the founder and CEO of the Tides Foundation (a frequent Beck target) has written advertisers asking them to remove their sponsorship of the Fox News program or risk having "blood on their hands."

Drummond Pike, who along with his organization was recently targeted by an assassin inspired by Beck's program, penned a letter on Friday to the Chairmen of the Boards of JP Morgan Chase, GEICO, Zurich Financial, Chrysler, Direct Holdings Americas, GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Lilly Corporate Center, BP, and The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc.

In it, he detailed the alarm he felt over having a "person carrying numerous guns and body armor" attempt to start a "revolution" by murdering "my colleagues and me."

Rest of article and Pike's comments here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/15/tides-foundation-ceo-glenn-beck_n_764470.html

48. How true!
Murdoch and his other over-wealthy ilk are nothing but pure sadists. They love to see those who work toward Justice die. And they really enjoy watching the 'little people' and the cannon fodder die and come home maimed.

They live in a cesspool of sadism. May they have to eat their money to survive.

16. The first time someone gets really hurt by some kook
who says he was taking instructions from Beck, I think we should all write, call, email the FBI and demand they arrest Beck for conspiracy and inciting to do bodily harm. He has got to be stopped. And while at it Ailes and Murdoch should be included because they allow such stuff on their republican infomerical channel.

18. K&R - I'm for free speech but those on the air also have a responsibility
Edited on Fri Oct-15-10 05:34 PM by RamboLiberal
I'm surprised at the lack of coverage this story has gotten this week. I at least expected something from MSNBC.

Color of Change has also renewed their campaign against Beck over this. And 2 police officials have spoken out againt Beck.

A former San Francisco police chief who now heads a police leadership program criticized Glenn Beck for comments that a California man says helped inform his plans for a killing spree, which esulted in injuries to several highway patrolmen in nearby Oakland.

Anthony Ribera, who served as San Francisco police chief from 1992 to 1996 and now heads a law enforcement leadership program at the University of San Francisco, commented on the rhetoric that led to a shootout between police and right-wing extremist Byron Williams that occurred this summer just across the bay in Oakland.

"Someone gets into a position of power, be it in the media or otherwise, and lets their personal animosity drive the rhetoric and there is no question that some people can embrace the rhetoric and take it to the extreme," he said when asked about the July 19 incident. "They influence people and the key is that when they are in highly-influential positions people listen to them and they have to temper what they say."

He is the second law enforcement leader this week to assail Beck, commenting just days after the top spokesman of the International Union of Police Associations, which represents about 500 local police unions, called Beck's words "inflammatory speech."

"The Becks of the world are people who are venting their opinions and it is inflammatory, it generates a lot of emotion and generates in some people overreaction that apparently happened in the California case," IUPA spokesman Rich Roberts had said. "Inflammatory speech has a tendency to trigger those kinds of emotions."

19. Shareholders questioning Murdoch today
QUESTIONER: Apparently 300 advertisers are refusing to advertise on Mr. Beck's program--

MURDOCH: That's not true.

QUESTIONER: Well, 297 then, apparently.

MURDOCH: No. No, no. Maybe four or five who have been moved over to Mr. O'Reilly's program. No one has taken any money off the channel.

QUESTIONER: There's been reports today that Mr. Ailes is a bit concerned about Mr. Beck, um--

MURDOCH: Is what?

QUESTIONER: Mr. Ailes is a bit concerned about Glenn Beck and him promoting his personal interests too much on the show, damaging Fox News, been saying it's too partisan. This can play out in potential--

MURDOCH: I don't know whether you watch Fox News, but Mr. Beck is the least of our stars who take liberties in promoting their interests.

20. Today he spouted Meet Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson
Today's outburst came in the middle of a hypothetical scenario Beck developed, one in which the government would consider taking his children because he refused to have them receive a mandatory flu vaccine. Beck explained to the audience that his response to such a claim would be to "meet Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson," a reference to the gun manufacturer.

After the recent revelations about how Beck apparently influenced would-be assassin Byron Williams, it seems there hasn't yet been a decision by Beck to avoid this type language that could incite people.

This also isn't the first time Beck has fearmongered over the flu vaccine. He previously said the vaccine could be "deadly" and that people should ignore Homeland Security recommendations to take it, while warning that someone could be "quarantined" or "put on a bus" by the government if they ignored a mandate to take the vaccine.

What an insane company, run by a power and money addicted sociopath. The only way to deal with these people is to force them off the air, they have no shame, no ethics nor empathy, and cannot be reasoned with.

They have to be exposed along with all the other criminal companies, by forcing them to expose their funding and their political ties. They need to be exposed as a propaganda tool of the international financiers who are working so hard to dismantle our infrastructure, our domestic security, and undermining our democracy by misinforming the public.

While I applaud Mr. Pike for speaking out, I'm afraid he's closing the barn door after the horse has already bolted. Messrs. Murdoch and Ailes have already done their damage, and show no signs of stopping. It's only a matter of time before a fervent Fox/Beck acolyte DOES strike violently.

53. Every time Faux is mentioned
I remember that Murdoch gained citizenship in this country-I doubt for any patriotic reason-just so he could have multiple media access and spread more of the faux news to catapult his agenda (which apparently is the neo-con agenda). I think he has done more serious damage to this country--"fair and balance" is so "yesterday", it went away at the same time as the "fairness doctrine." And, when faux was sued for lying, apparently, they won judgment-basically they can lie willy nilly and their viewers eat it up daily. Of course, the more Americans increasingly become uninformed, the more they'll believe the bullshite fed to them. And, people like limpballs and beck pander to people's preconceived ideas, bigotry and fear. Instead of giving facts from reputable organizations (I don't include Heritage as reputable), they have the shills to validate their agenda.
