This is inexcusable. This is what we have come to as a country. I have left the contact email intact in case there are any DU dentists in Virginia who would be able to help.

HELP!!!! I am in desperate need of a dentist that can pull all of my remaining teeth for me. I did have caps on all of them for the past 15years, but I recently became disabled and now all of my caps have broken off to the point where they are constintly getting infected, which can kill me if the infection spreads into the sinuses. I have call evey FREE clinic but no one has been able to help me and I am at a complete lost as to what to do now. In exchange for doing the teeth pulling I would be will ing to do some part time accounting for you. I am certified in Quickbooks. I am homeless so this is the best I can offer you. Please is'nt thete someone out there willing to help me?

* Location: Loudoun County
* it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests

4. Actually, I know just how that person feels. I'd do ANYTHING
to have my teeth fixed before they kill me. Every morning that I don't wake up dead, I'm surprised that I'm still here.

5. I Know How He Feels
I actually have health insurance with SOME dental coverage, and I haven't been to a dentist in years. Why? Because the dental coverage (which I get through my wife, who is employed by the State of Ohio) only covers 50% of the bill, and I'm sure that I'm going to need some pretty major work done. I mean, don't get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that I have ANY dental coverage at all (so many people don't), but 50% coverage is pretty much the same as having no coverage at all. When you get a bill for thousands of dollars, it doesn't matter whether someone picks up half of it or not. Whatever's left is STILL enough to sink you. So I just don't go.

Just another example of what a travesty the for-profit healthcare system in this country has become. People in this country just EXPECT that they're not going to get dental coverage, and are happy to get anything at all. And a lot of people don't realize just how serious dental problems can become. They can literally kill you if, like me, you let them go for long periods of time because you can't afford to have them fixed.

7. Here, some dentists work with the local health department to provide pro bono work
It may be mostly pulling teeth but that is better than a fatal infection. Last year while I was getting some work done, my dentist was discussing it with a dental technician trainee. He puts in so many hours per month of free work and some of his staff volunteer their time, too.

12. Loudoun County is the wealthiest in the nation?
When I lived there Loudoun was countrified and cheaper than Fairfax County was, by a significant bit. I take it that has changed?

While I don't need to have ALL my teeth pulled... I've been in a similar situation.

Got laid off in 2007 from a job I had for 9 years. Had 3 jobs after that, but nowhere near what I was paid before. Jobless stress & financial stress exacerbated my medical condition and I had to quit the last job and apply for SS disability.

In the meantime, I had 2 crowns fall off, and a tooth with a large filling broke. Just this week, I had to have that tooth extracted (I sold off gold jewelry to be able to afford it). Dentist told me I need another extraction on one of the teeth with the missing crown, that I could have saved it had I come in earlier. No could do, doc... I haven't had an extra $165 lying around in a LONG time. Sometimes, it was only because of some $10 or $20 item I sold on Craigslist that allowed me to keep afloat for another week.

Thankfully, my SSDI just came through, so I'll be able to afford dental work from now on. My heart goes out to this woman. I dare a Republican to tell me she's not "motivated" to work.

There are few agonies more horrible than dental pain. Is there a DU'er in this person's state, who could call the dentists until they find one who will help him? Or else report this story to their local news media?

a scam with participation legally forced.

16. Our FOR PROFIT health care system's slogan: We don't care. We don't have to.
They make the mafia look like a civic organization.

They don't get one out of every six dollars in the economy by providing services worth that. They get it by using political clout to avoid reasonable regulation and responsibility.

18. Lobbying! It's all about the insurance coverages and service providers.
Edited on Sat Oct-16-10 09:47 AM by TexasObserver
Many companies don't write coverage for eyes or teeth.

The lack of decent regulation of the health care industry is the reason OUR system costs us 33% more than it does in countries that provide EVERYONE with health care.

This pillaging of citizens by the health care profiteers is a major reason our country cannot right itself economically.

We are all controlled by the dictates of an unregulated necessity. It is like the abusive robber barons who plundered America in the late 1800s.

20. Can I put in a plug
for the use of hydrogen peroxide to battle the infection? As one who was plagued with dental problems and infections my entire life, I can attest to its ability to reduce the infection. A mixture of roughly 1:1 ratio of HP to water.

In the meantime we can all put out to the cosmos that this individual needs treatment.

I grew up in Loudoun County. Well, the rich horsey set might have been more aloof, but now the place is mostly suburban bed-room communities. I cannot imagine being homeless there.

25. My normal advice is to try dental schools or colleges that train assistants and hygenists,
but the poster is probably too far from anything to do that and most likely can't drive anywhere.

But for anyone else that needs it, I've seen many ads placed by people looking for patients so they can do their exams (free cleanings, etc). I'll post these here so that they might help anyone that can use them:
http://buffalo.craigslist.org/bts/1941167164.html
http://buffalo.craigslist.org/bts/1958033975.html

Similar things can be had by searching for keywords like the above in your city. Yeah, it's damn sad that it's come to this.
