If the 'publicans had their way, what would this country be like?
Please recall that in 1961, when President Obama was born, his parents marriage was illegal in several states...in fact, state prohibition of interracial marriage was a felony in Virginia till that law was overturned by the Supreme Court...in Loving v Virginia in 1967.

IMO, the 'publican party and their associated RWers want to take us back to the late 1920's, removing social security and all the safety nets of the New Deal and all the civil rights and women's rights and gay rights and everyone elses rights acts since that time. They want to lower the various taxes on corporations and the very rich, while providing nothing for the workers and whatever middle class would remain.

They would encourage legal racism and religious discrimination, violence and hate groups.

This is my impression of what the 'publicans REALLY want to see America become.

Do you have any thoughts on what America would be under total 'publican rule?

24. Feudalism is right. We'd have a nation of the rich, by the rich, and
for the rich. The rest of us would be serfs. Our democracy would become a plutocracy!

The poorest of those who still remained would become servants of the remaining feudal kings.

11. It would look like it did 100 years ago during the Gilded Age
The wealthy and the working class. No unions or any benefits that unions have brought to us, no child labor laws, no minimum wage, only white men voting. Schooling would be for the wealthy and the poor would be illiterate for the most part.

But corporations would bring the jobs back since it would be cheaper here with the lowest wages in the industrialized world, so everyone could get a job.

19. Stated goal of Karl Rove:
"Do away with the laws of the 20th century".
No food safety. No worker's rights. No civil rights. No oversight of wall street.

But taxes would be low.

12. If the repubs truly had their way, this is what the US would be like, imo...
Poverty the likes of which are now found in some third world countries and was found during the time of Dickens.

Child labor would no longer be a third world atrocity, it would be legal in the US.

The Gilded Era would return full force complete with almost non-existent wages (work for lodging instead, 14 hour days, etc.)

Wars with Iran, Syria, Lebanon, etc.

18. They would also have poor houses and poor farms
if people owed even a couple of dollars that they couldn't pay they would confiscate their property and give it to the rich landowner.

Children would be allowed to work, there would be no benefits. They wouldn't allow any body of color to use any of the facilities that the "white folk" had access to. I really truly believe that if they got enough members of congress and a republican president they would do away with everything we have. They would also turn all the government agencies over to private companies, and let them charge whatever they wanted for the services. We wouldn't have free schools because if the keep the public ignorant they better to "rule" them. And if they got a republican president they would make him dictator.

for imagining what things MIGHT be like, at least for most of us peons. Indentured slavery, work barracks (camps?), forced prostitution (women), forced abortions (women).

and the rich will be sequestered on sunny palm-tree lined beaches playing golf and wining and dining in the finest houses.

Flat economic growth, the disappearance of the middle class, a 41.2% poverty rate, and the worst income disparity on the continent.

We've seen this all before only most refuse to remember.

32. Here's how it would break down for certain segments of the population.
Blacks - Would be deported to Africa.
Hispanics - Would be deported to Mexico regardless of their country of origin.
Gays & Lesbians - Would be lynched/executed.
Asians - Allowed to stay as long as they know their place.
Women - No reproductive rights, no right to vote, and completely powerless in their marriages.
The poor - Debtor's prisons, concentration camps, etc.
Any liberals left - Sent to re-education camps where they're tortured with propaganda worshiping the great St. Ronnie.

The rich - Would own 99% of all wealth/assets. The tiny middle class that serves them get the 1% of crumbs that fall from the table.

34. Oh MAN...It would be terrible!
*First thing, EFCA (Employee Free Choice Act) would have hit the Trash Can

*We would NEVER renegotiate NAFTA

*They would MANDATE us to BUY Insurance without a Public Option

*They would work to Privatize Public Schools and bust the Teacher's Union

*They would shower Wall Street Big Banks with Billions, no strings attached

*Any "stimulus" would be Tax Cuts and contracts to crony corporations

*Military Spending would be increased

*We would have over 50,000 troops permanently in Iraq

*Blackwater would still be in business and still getting BIG government contracts

*Halliburton & Big Oil Corps would be splitting up Iraq's oil

*The War in Afghanistan would be "surged" (escalated), and expanded to neighboring countries

*Too Big to Fail" would NEVER be broken up

*Money would continue to be transferred from the Working Class to the Ownership Class

*Rich would get richer. Poor would keep getting poorer

*Good Jobs would keep going overseas

*The Working Class would be forced to compete with 3rd World Slave Labor for their jobs

*NONE of the Bush War Criminals and War Profiteers would ever know a day of discomfort

*None of the Wall Street Criminals would have the slightest fear of ANY accountability

*Corporations (some foreign) would be able to finance/buy elections

*The Patriot Act would be re-enforced instead of repealed

*The powers of the Unitary Executive would be expanded to include assassination of US citizens on grounds of "Suspicion" without judicial review

*Wiretapping and spying on American citizens without judicial review or warrants would be the NEW Status Quo

*Black Torture Prisons would remain OPEN for Business as Usual

*Peace Activists would be targeted as "terrorists"

*Glass-Steagall would NEVER be re-instated

*GLBT would NEVER get Equal Rights and Equal protections

*They would form a "Commission" to cut Social Security and Medicare

*Real progressives and FDR Democrats would be ridiculed from the White House

*There would be absolutely NO discussion of "Fair Competition" legislation that would allow Mom & Pop and family farms to compete with WalMart (Big Boxes/Agribusiness) on a level playing field

*Cap & Trade would be the Environmental policy

...and thats just for starters.
No matter WHAT happens, we can't let the Republicans gain control!!!
