Breaking: Conway leads!
'I’ve got big news for you: A new poll released last evening has Jack leading Rand Paul by two points -- 49% to 47%.

This is the first poll showing us taking a lead in the race, and as The Washington Post puts it: We’re "surging."

This weekend we released an aggressive ad going right after Rand Paul. We went on offense, and it's clear our strategy is working.

Now that we’re in the lead, we need to put even more pressure on Rand Paul.

Will you contribute $25 or more right now so that we can continue the fight to maintain this lead?

This is make-or-break time. If we're going to have a victory on November 2, I need everyone to step up and help us today.'

10. Conway's "Aqua Buddha" ad
I saw the "Aqua Buddha" ad last night and wanted to jump and scream YES!!! Finally a Democrat hits a sickening snake in the grass like Paul right where it hurts, THE F-ING RELIGIOUS NUT BASE. Finally someone is willing to fight and realize that playing "nice" against a germ like Rand Paul does nothing.

14. (Love your doggie).. but thought the ad was going to backfire...
Hard to predict what plays in rural KY, though. I hope this is the start of a trend...

23. I don't think it will
I don't know anything, but I just have a feeling this will help. I grew up in Eastern Kentucky and I know ads like that can get people talking. If Paul were a native Kentuckian it might backfire, but he is from out of state, it isn't natural for rural folks to trust outsiders all that much anyway, and Conway is from a lot closer to home than Rand Paul. Conway isn't going to get the votes of the guys playing militia on the weekend anyway, but Grandma might have a decision to make.

(Thank you for the complement on my puppy, she's almost 6 months old and a total pistol.)

11. Anti-choice, Anti-gay - the Religious Right
Acting like you support the sick aims of the Religious Right goes a long way in Kentucky, I am sad to say. Luckily Conway's ads even hit Paul on this angle, talking about "Aqua Buddha" and calling into question Rand Paul's support of Christians. Smart move, stuff like that is what can win here.

19. So you think Conway's ad and focus in debate was useful,
contrary to many (including my) views here? Could be, as 'all politics is local,' I guess.

Thx

25. I just saw the ad
Edited on Wed Oct-20-10 02:33 PM by get the red out
I can't watch debates, I get too upset with the lying sacks of sh*t... ugh I mean Republicans.

But when I saw that ad I was blown away, I just felt that was exactly what was needed in Kentucky, EXACTLY! For a guy like Rand Paul that cares for nobody but himself to have the support of the ubber religious people in this state just because he has an "R" after his name is sickening. It's time WE question THEIR spiritual credentials. Guys like him want to starve people, get miners killed, pointing that out is too intellectual, imagery was needed because it's what so many have been trained to respond to. Democrats want people to listen and think, BUT THEY DON'T, the media has trained them not to. And people who were lucky to get out of high school..... there are a lot of people in this state that have had no educational advantages, mostly because of conservative thinking. A statement needed to be made.

Just my opinion. Jack Conway is a Kentuckian, Rand Paul isn't, I Conway knows what he's doing, painting Paul as an outsider even more vividly. We have seen so many respond favorably to harder ads from Republicans, 40% of them think the President is a Muslim after all and Rush Limbaugh recently said that the President looked demonic. We can't go soft anymore, it doesn't sell and too much is at risk.

8. Internal poll
Internals almost always show their candidate in the lead, and are heavily skewed.

Aren't internals taken to provide 'real world' picture for campaigns?

12. Media would skew right
All media here in Kentucky skews to the right, so I wouldn't trust them for sure. And there were more Democrats that voted in the primary than Republicans by far.

27. More reliable than internals
They are always at least 5 points in the wrong, highly favoring of their own candidate. Internals are polls taken by the the person's office who is running. In this case, it was taken by Conway's people.

33. Yes
They release it to the media hoping it has a domino effect on 10% of the vote. "Wow, my candidate is winning now. Now I'll vote instead of staying home."

15. I donated to him this morning. It is absolutely critical that Paul is defeated!
This man is 100% bigot just like his father! He is very, very dangerous.

Proof positive that Democrats going on offense works!

Just look at the evidence:

Russ, Bennet, Sestak, not Conway! When Democrats fight back, they win!

Now, let's fight back and GOTV!!!!

29. I'll go on record as saying I thought the ad would backfire
It still makes me uncomfortable in that it looks like Conway is taking a, "He's not Christian enough to hold office," position, but in this case, in this political environment with the upcoming elections, I'll be an end justifies the means guy. :)

30. I must have sent him a few hundred bucks during the last few months
I consider this one of the key Senate races (along with PA) that we can still pull out of the fire, and although there's
not a hell of a lot I can do while stationed in Germany, I am sending every spare cent I have to support races like Sestak
and Conway (even gave some to Reid!), as well as House races I care about. It heartbreaking that two friends are running
for the House in races that they will probably lose. I sent them plenty of money anyway. Who would have thought that Sestak
and Conway would become frontrunners two months ago?
