Seriously....

How can the Dems expect voters to have any enthusiasm when they do something like this?

on edit: I should add that I'll always vote Dem. This is just one of the many reasons why I'm not as enthusiastic about the Dems as I normally am.

1. They feel a rush to repeal DADT will cause many problems.

The military is not currently prepared.

I have no opinion on whether they are correct or not.

So vote Republican I guess. Or abstain from voting, same thing really.

does what we want on DADT.

That's called cutting off your nose to spite your face. You think the tea party folks have their heads up their asses, just think about not voting because of the outcome of a single issue. Of course if you think a repub congress will give you what you want you're hopeless.

7. I should have taken off the sarcasm thingy so people would think I'm serious...
I probably should have added that it's difficult to feel enthusiasm when Obama says one thing and does another in regards to this issue. I should have added that DADT isn't the only reason why I sometimes don't feel the same enthusiasm as I initially did.

The Dems continue to run from the tea party types every time they screech about Pelosi or Reid.

I should have also added that I'm voting Dem no matter what. I'll always vote Dem.

The enthusiasm isn't there anymore.

very dismal. I hear everyday how bad things are and how bad they are going to be and what nasty things the repubs are doing to us this election cycle but I never hear what we are going to do about it.

We out number the right, we can out spend them if we all gave a little, we have a loud voice if we go out into the streets and make noise, we can out vote them even with their tricks.

But we are scared shitless!

15. Amen! That's why this mentality seems to me to be a gift to Republicans
It's everything they'd want to see.

And not being inspired to vote for one's local Democrat over this one issue?

Anyone that hard to inspire to do their civic duty and vote is never going to be satisfied. Or, maybe not until the Rethugs control everything.

3. Luckily, Obama isn't running.
And the Republicans who are running in my district are all clearly more of a problem than the Dems running against them. For instance, my governor not only passed a law limiting marriage, but even said that gay veterans might want to consider moving to another state. That's a pretty clear inspiration for me. I figure the more Democrats we get in Congress and the state houses, the better chance we have of getting stuff done, with or without Obama's approval.

4. You just want President Palin.
You don't understand the Constitution.

The president HAS to file an appeal.

He's reviving it so as to really, REALLY kill it.

You just hate Obama.

(Did I miss any?)

16. No, he doesn't. And no, he isn't.

Obama has stated many times that he doesn't like the judiciary overturning legislation. Probably because the Legislature is the most representative branch of gov't.

The Executive is as well, but concentrates power. The Roman Senate elected the first Ceasars. And eventually lost all power.

I actually agree with Obama that the Legislature needs to re-assert its pre-eminence. However, on the particular issues of Civil Rights, I disagree with Obama, and believe that the Judiciary should reign supreme.

Or, maybe ... he just wants to get credit for overturning DADT and knows he can't do that if the courts beat him to it!

:)

5. It's not Democratic enthusiasm they're worried about.
Edited on Wed Oct-20-10 02:05 PM by daylan b
It's about not giving the Republicans something to rile their base up even more.

It's not right but what else is new?

6. Both parties are flailing on this
Their fence-sitting, political calculating God-Guns-Gays days are over

It's the economy!

8. That's where the "anyone who doesn't come out to vote is voting for the repukes"
comes in. If they can't get you excited about voting for someone, it works just as well to get you to vote against someone.

11. We are voting for someone. Ourselves!
That is the one thing you have to fight with, your vote. Give it up and you gave up!

9. If that is the only issue for you then don't vote. On the other hand if you believe their are other
issues that differentiate the two parties you most likely should vote, and work to get equality for all

They are doing this purely for political reasons which makes it even more despicable

13. Actually, the appeal is far more important than the stay.

The appeal by this admin makes it important that we return Democrats to the legislature. The only Democrat they should not be voting for this election is Obama.

And I'm okay with that.

12. So this year you should vote for all the Democrats except for Obama.
Edited on Wed Oct-20-10 02:41 PM by ieoeja
I believe there has to be another vote on a defense authorization bill before the lame duck congress expires. Retiring Senators who filibustered the last bill will probably choose not to filibuster this time around.

More importantly, if they *do* filibuster the bill again, if we insert enough non-Conservative Democrats in the Senate this year, they can pass the bill after the lame duck congress expires.

If this truly is important to you, then the appeal makes it more important that you vote.

14. So let Republicans pick the next justices
that'll help.

:sarcasm:

The appeal is not what you are making of it - if it's too boring to understand legal mumbo jumbo, then don't judge it.
Where is your familiarity with the case law on this? Why would it be found constitutional? and if you insist judges don't follow the law but do what they want, why would Republican appointees be any better when the issue does come before them - which it will eventually.

17. Another crock of "Don't Vote"
This shit is getting real damn old.

If you don't vote, your enemies will win.

So go vote and quit your whining.

I'd go into such a deep depression that I don't know what I'd do.
