1. The probem - 'news is no longer news, it is propaganda.' I don't watch TV anymore
so I don't know how to counteract it.

2. I've seen it here in Nevada too. It's horrible this year. Way worse than in 2008.
We are being flooded with horrible political ads.

11. I suspect it is like the 2002 Pennsylvania Governor Race..
Or was it 2006? It has been a long time. Rendall, Pennsylvania Democratic Governor elected in 2002, was running and all you saw was his ads and signs, nothing from the GOP candidate. Why? The GOP primary electors had nominated someone who opposed expanding Gambling in Pennsylvania. Rendall was for expanding Gambling as was Mellon-Scaife (Owner of the Tribune-Review). Thus Mellon-Scaife and the rest of the money bags of the GOP refused to give any money to the GOP Candidate, but made sure Rendall had all the money he needed.

This year, it is the opposite, the GOP money bags want the GOP to win at all cost, and spending money left and right and not giving a cent to the Democrats (Most Donors give to BOTH candidates so they have access after the election no matter who wins). Furthermore with the Supreme Court Decision permitting unlimited spending by Corporations, even more money is available, pushing up the cost to advertise even if the Democrats had the money to spend.

Just the first signs of the change of times do to that Supreme Court decision and the huge amount of money the GOP right wing is willing to spend to get elected.

4. I've seen that here in CA regarding Prop 23.
Edited on Wed Oct-20-10 06:55 PM by 4lbs
The ad for Prop 23 says that it is necessary otherwise jobs will be lost.

That is untrue.

Prop 23, if passed, would allow certain taxes and environmental regulations to be suspended until the state unemployment rate drops to 5.5%.

It is funded and pushed for by two Texas oil companies, getting into the CA energy business like they did in 2000. We Californians know what happened back then, when energy prices tripled for a year as regulations were ended.

Not passing Prop 23 doesn't cost jobs. However, the oil funded bill and ads supporting it claim that hundreds of thousands of jobs would be lost if it doesn't pass.

5. We needs some sort of laws against lying in political ads.
And establish HEAVY fines for any lies determined to be present. And even provide for overturning election results in the case of lies in ads.

THAT would stop this shit, but quick.

6. I'm praying it backfires on them, but I'm rather cynical about the
intelligence of the general population. I hope I'm wrong.

7. Rachel discussed this last night
showed that it's about 'the southern strategy' across the nation - the white vote - say anything racist or otherwise, just get the white vote.

Funny the media blames the politicians but they love hte advertising money regardless of the destruction and division created by the hate ads.

8. Up here in Ohio (which, BTW, had been in Repuke control since 1995 until Strickland/Brown)
the Repugs just can't figure out who is responsible for the 400K jobs lost ...

I mean, they've blamed (Gov) Ted Strickland ... Betty Sutton ... (Lt. Gov) Lee I. Fisher ... John Boccieri ... Today's was Stephen Dyer.

Hmm, so all these "northeastern Ohio" Democrats are to blame for the other 75% of the state losing those jobs? As I recall, Strickland has to deal with a Repuke controlled State congress ... which, BTW, has tried to kill any casino measures (which, as service jobs, seem to be the last jobs available ... all those millionaires and billionaires in Ohio aren't bothering to create jobs, despite all the tax breaks which they say, if expired, will kill jobs).

And those Repukes in Columbus hold anything hostage if it wasn't conceived and put forth by a Repuke ...

I saw one ad where a few people are standing around in an office talking about how Strickland "couldn't even keep X company from leaving". Um, with a minimal research, I found that company X was pouring tons of money into REPUBLICAN campaign funds ... what incentive did company X have to make a Democrat look good? (A side note ... one great LTTE in the Akron Beacon Journal stated that, if these employees had the time to stand around bitching about the jobs "Strickland lost", maybe they should have been let go, too ...)
