2. Well, I don't know about "fighting" but weren't many slaves forced
to dig trenches for the Confederate soldiers? I seem to recall being told this at one of the zillions of civil war battlefields my Father drug me to in childhood. :shrug: Obviously quite different from "volunteering to fight," but we know how the RW loves to twist the facts.

yes, a good number of slaves did fight for the South. Don't know that it was thousands under Jackson alone, but there were quite a few that did.

The author of this book, that was accepted for public schools in Virginia, got this grossly erroneous information from the sons of confederate veteran's web site.

That was the reference for this material that the publisher supplied.

That's where we have gotten to. Any fool can write some stupid stuff on a web site, and it can find its way to a public school text book.
