White House Senior Advisor Valerie (Lifestyle Choice) Jarrett Defends Appeal Of DADT Injunction
White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett Defends Appeal Of DADT Injunction

Wonk Room provides the transcript:

You know what, the Justice Department is required to defend the law of the land. Believe me, we wish there were another way because the President has been so clear. And I think there are many members of the gay community who actually understand this and who are working with us to try to put pressure on Congress to repeal it. It’s clear that the vast majority of American people think that it should not be the law. And we are determined to have Congress revoke it. But we have to go through that orderly process.

4. If they don't appeal and it goes to USSC then reversing it via legislation would be harder. Also, we
...should NOT support lower courts overruling higher court decisions otherwise conservative judges could turn back civil rights legislation and stick it in the court system for decades.

TIA

5. Why harder
Just because it isn't found unconstitutional, doesn't really mean that the Senate still can't pass it. It won't be any different than if the case never existed in the first place.

9. Um, this appeal makes it MORE likely to go to SCOTUS, not less.

So basically Obama has opened a can of worms in court when he can't deliver Congress.

Sometimes this administration seems flat out self destructive to me.

6. Liar mouth!
Is this an example of that stirring exhortation of hers in her infamous "It Gets Better" speech? Is that that "fierce urgency" she was babbling about?

How can any sane person believe one word out of the mouths of these frauds?

What kind of idiots do they think we are?

8. The law of the land says that torture
is a crime. Can we go after Bush and Co? Just saying since we are all so hell bent on defending "The law of the land". Guess some laws are more important.
