1. Well, this Red Sox fan is delighted! Suspect the sponsors would have
preferred a NY, Phila or both for the big east coast city $$$...but it is great when teams that spend a fortune don't get what they expect!

21. Have to go find that one....
I've got Bob, Jerry, and Vince Welnick doing it for the '94 season opener...magnificent a cappella version and the whole place rocked out. "And asked how they got the Dead to sing it, the Giant's PR staff said, "we just asked them""...lol. This Bosox fan knows who he'll be rooting for in this series!

8. Giants eliminate Phillies to win NL pennant

(10-23) 20:40 PDT PHILADELPHIA (AP) --

Juan Uribe hit a tiebreaking homer off Ryan Madson with two outs in the eighth inning and the San Francisco Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 Saturday night in Game 6 of the NL championship series to reach the World Series for the first time since 2002.

The pitching-rich Giants will host the Texas Rangers in Game 1 on Wednesday night.

Slumping Phillies slugger Ryan Howard looked at a called third strike with runners on first and second to end it.

Giants ace Tim Lincecum struggled in the eighth inning, pitching in relief on one day of rest after losing Game 5. Brian Wilson got five outs to finish off the Phillies, who were trying to become the first NL team in 66 years to win three straight pennants.

44. Hey, at least there's a decent mass transit system in S.F.
Where do you commute from? (horrible concept; "commute" - destructive to the Earth)...

Or just go to the games!

I know, I know. The cheapest seats (which is standing room) are like $40 during the season. I seem to remember looking it up and the series standing room only tix are about $95. As I remember, ticket prices go up to around $16,000 per for the series.

Ooops, I was off. I found one site where they range from $434 to $95,419 each... Cheap at 1/2 the price... :puke:

Edited on Sun Oct-24-10 03:37 AM by CreekDog
it's a bit busy after the game with everyone getting on streetcars and walking back to the BART/MUNI stations on Market St. (about a mile away). before the game is actually far more orderly since people arrive over the course of an hour or even more.

but i was working in the neighborhood in 2002 and commuting and had NO problem, in fact, it was very exciting to have it so close (since I couldn't go).

there are 80 games per year at this ballpark and it's a wonderful thing to have in the neighborhood. i've been to multiple games this year.

Since a lot of people who would have otherwise been on the Nimitz Freeway at the time the Loma Prieta earthquake hit and collapsed it were instead at the ballpark or at home getting ready to watch the game on tv.

Lots of noise around my Mission District home; I'm sure the rest of the city's pretty boisterous right now, too.

What if these miracle mutts actually beat the Bush Rangers and won the series? The Bay Area would go nutz.

The city's filled with jubilation, joy, and celebration. Bars, restaurants, streets, and establishments are filled with happy people; the media's having the time of its life, and every shape, size, color, and strata of our diverse population is bursting with civic pride.

I saw a father and little son walking down Mission Street the other day with identical Giants shirts on. It was just heart-melting- this little kid will remember him & his dad during these playoffs for his entire life. Whole families are turning out in team colors.

What a season! Go Giants Go!

Phils won more games than any other tame in MLB although they had 18 players on the DL at one time or another

Phils' heads haven't been in the playoffs since the Championship in 2008. they just seem to disappear and all the verve goes out of the team.

60. I was kind of surprised that missed catch by Victorino wasn't called an error
or was it?

If he catches the ball the Giants don't score those 2 runs, right?

Sure it was a hugely difficult catch but the ball hit his glove. If the ball hits your glove ya gotta catch it.

Still, losing by Howard looking at a called third strike kind of sums it all up.
