Minneapolis Tribune endorses Clark over Bachmann with scathing language
http://www.startribune.com/opinion/editorials/105552018.html?page=1&c=y

"Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has appeared at least eight times since January on Fox News' Sean Hannity Show. How many mayors or county commissioners in Bachmann's Sixth District swath of central Minnesota have had an equal number of conversations with her this year?

The Editorial Board didn't get a chance ask Bachmann, who declined repeated requests for a meeting. But voters deciding whether to send her back for a third term deserve an answer. While Bachmann primps for the cameras, her district struggles with unemployment, clogged roads and foreclosure-pocked neighborhoods. Four years of media razzle-dazzle have made Bachmann a political headliner, but it's done little for her beleaguered constituents back home....

What distinguishes Clark from Bachmann is her willingness to put common sense before rigid ideology to serve the Sixth District, which stretches from St. Cloud through Anoka County to the metro's eastern suburbs. Clark is well-versed in health care issues and committed to smoothing health reform for consumers and providers -- not prolonging the uncertainties. Unlike Bachmann, she's willing to carry legislation to secure federal funding for bridges and other projects in need of repair. Unlike Bachmann, Clark stands ready to help county officials expand the Northstar rail line's schedule and its service to St. Cloud. Local officials are frustrated by Bachmann's lack of interest....

Bachmann is in touch with Hannity and Glenn Beck but out of touch with her district. Voters should also vote for Clark over Independent Bob Anderson. Anderson, a dental technician who is running a second time, has little political experience and few original ideas on how to cut federal spending and generate jobs. He's not a credible candidate, and Minnesotans shouldn't waste their votes."

4. Now
Will the people in Bachmann's district pay attention to the fact that she hasn't been paying attention? This is great news!

10. Yeppers!
 But you were probably going to vote for Clark anyways! :pals: It's the 'undecided indies' that if they don't get the message and see they have a nut representing them that is more concerned with her 'press' time than her constituents I'm worried about! ;-)

12. I just wanted to be sure I counted.
Nice to know I do.

I live in the part of the district that elected Tarryl Clark to the legislature, so I think my neighbors will already be voting for her. It's the one's on the eastern end of the district or the middle of it that will likely screw this up.

19. Don't worry about us here in the eastern end of the district.
I think we've favored Bachmann's opponents by slim margins in her two previous congressional elections.

Tarryl Clark's dedication and hard work in the State Senate have won her the loyalty of many out there in the western end, even though it tends to be more conservative. Persuade enough independents and folks in the central part of the district, and we just might pull this off. Toward that end, this ringing Star-Tribune endorsement is a huge boost.

P.S. I hope you're at the big Tailgate Party tonight, where President Clinton is combining business with pleasure by campaigning for Tarryl while taking in the Vikings-Packers game with a host of fans!

18. This editorial seems likely to presuade many of those undecided independents.
It paints an accurate portrait of Tarryl Clark as the sort of dedicated, commonsense legislator that indies want. And it concludes by warning those independents that they risk wasting their vote, and boosting Bachmann, by voting for Independent candidate Bob Anderson, whom I believe netted 10% of the vote in 2008.

As you've already perceived, those independents have the power to swing the race. Persuade enough of them, and Bachmann might yet be free to work full-time as a Fox News commentator. The Star-Tribune is probably the most widely-read paper in Bachmann's district, and that editorial makes quite a damning case against her.

I gave her $50 yesterday after reading the editorial! :-) It makes me feel better that Guv'na Doughboy (AKA Chris Christie) is in power when I give to Democrats outside of NJ! ;-)

20. As of the last election, only 46% of us here in MN CD6 were "fucking morons".
Edited on Sun Oct-24-10 09:07 PM by Mister Ed

2008 Results from Minnesota Congressional District 06:

Michele Bachmann (Republican): 46.41%

Elwyn Tinklenberg (Democrat): 43.43%

Bob Anderson (Independent): 10.04%

These results should show you clearly that the stoopid is not nearly as broad as it is deep here in CD6, and that Bachmann remains vulnerable to defeat in this or any election.

21. The district is solidly Republican.
Abortion field trips for school children...a constitutional amendment that would prevent the U.S. from adopting another country's currency...spending more time on Fox than with leaders in her district...and yet she's probably going to win.

The bankruptcy of morality and common sense of voting Republicans is truly disturbing.

25. Maybe the newspaper people figured out they live with the consequences as well.
All these "big business" republicans tend to forget about their local community once they're in office. Fundamentally, what is wrong with our government is that the representatives are not representing the interests of their local communities. Instead, once they're in, they represent all the lobbyists who form a line outside their door.

29. Seems to me, their criticism of Bachman not serving her
constituents at home, but instead basking in the spotlight on Fox, could apply to any of the GOP candidate.
