BUSH: "I did not want to be a president overseeing a depression greater than the Great Depression"
During his speech to a Chicago group on Friday Bush said this:

When a member of the audience asked why he had signed off on the bailout of major financial institutions, Bush said he took that action after his economic advisors, Henry Paulson, the former treasury secretary, and Ben Bernanke, the current head of the Federal Reserve, urged him to do so.

"I did not want to be a president overseeing a depression greater than the Great Depression," Bush said.

In other words folks, Obama and the Democratic Party didn't just help save us from another Great Depression, they saved us from an even GREATER Great Depression!

And George W Bush along with his Republican Party created a Depression that could have been GREATER than the Great Depression....under THEIR WATCH!

1. Too late honey.
You just didn't want to be blamed for it. Sorry - too many of us out there know the truth.

7. i don't think he's lying in this case.
yes, he's a serial liar, but in this instance, i honestly think he's way too stupid about such matters.

paulson and bernanke simply rolled him with the big bad depression fear.

and for the record, i strongly believe there would have been a "depression" if the government had done absolutely nothing. the problem was that there were more options that weren't considered and what they chose to do was not likely the best solution. in fact, what happened under shrub was of dubious value; obama's bailout was far more productive.

4. Always about him.
HE wanted to be a war president, HE didn't want to be a depression president. He cannot extend himself any farther than him. Pathetic.

5. Much to Bush's* regret, the collapse happened 6 months too soon!
They knew it was coming, but were surprised when it occurred in September '08, not March '09.

Greater Depression.

This proves the current GOP are not ready for Prime Time.
They would have done nothing. Just let everything fail.

8. Then why did he push policies that were certain to cause it
Now he is pretending like he did something good by signing off on the bailout for the depression he caused.

10. No I didn't want to preside over it but I sure as
hell loved the fact that "I" caused it for the next president to handle. And this president is not doing too badly at that. The thing is he doesn't get the credit that Bush did, who did nothing.

20. He caused it!
Tax cuts for Millionaires, Funding 2 wars, Sky rocket Energy prices that his Oil buddies profitted from, in my opinion the high cost of energy was what drove the collapse, & still is a factor in stopping recovery!

19. Sounds like a good sound bite
for a democratic commercial. Bush making these statements, while a car speeds toward the cliff, show how many jobs lost by the time the democrats took over, cut back to Bush talking about a "greater Great Depression". Show McCain stating that the country was stable (when the crisis was hitting).

Then come back to one of the many reports showing that we stabilized. Give facts and charts. Show what we rescued and then show the car at the edge of the cliff and the (insert democrat candidate) getting into the drivers seat and turning the car around and then a close up of them putting it in D and driving back down an American highway.

When the GOP gives us these gems we need to grab them and make a lovely commercial necklace.
