Freepers blast contraception
Edited on Sun Oct-24-10 02:39 PM by varun
These extremists will not stop with abortion - they want to take away the condom and the pill as well...

"...My years have taught me that the litmus test of a REAL Christian is marriage and birth control. Real Christians stay married till death and have as many children as God sends. They don't use birth control. If I see a person who calls themselves Christian and is divorced and remarried, I know that they are hypocrites. If I see a couple with no children because they use birth control, I know they have not God's Grace.
How many Christians like that do you know?

1. I'm telling you they need their own planet where
they can destroy themselves with their crazy ideas and selfish judgmental thought processes without us as witnesses.

17. you know, I used to think that
but then I think of all the poor children then will have and continue to abuse and the cycle will never end.

Isn't there some obligation to stop religious child abuse? Of course, I'm moving into the "all religion" is abuse camp lately. . . . The world would be better place without it entirely in my book.

Good people don't need an excuse/reason/carrot/stick to do good. Maybe if we concentrated more on teaching empathy and social justice instead of "my god's better than your god" bs, we could move the world forward.

21. Didn't Jesus say something about not judging lest you be judged?
I believe he did! I also know there's a verse in I John that says anyone who does not love remains in death. Oh, and I think Jesus also mentioned something about loving one another. Can't believe this person says the test of a real Christian is marriage and birth control. Somehow, I thought the real test had to do with loving our fellow man...Maybe he/she should revisit the word of God, especially those verses where Jesus' words are in red letters.

These people make me sick. They're part of the reason I no longer darken the door of any fundamentalist church. Experience shows me I might just do something really unchristian if I do.

Peace and blessings from a really lapsed Baptist.

39. Let me explain how they reconcile that in their sick, perverted theology.
They start with the premise that all that only applies to other brothers and sisters in Christ. They are under no obligation, in their reading of it, to 'love' the followers of the devil nor are they obligated to refrain from judging them.

I did, with my own ears, hear a teacher in a bible study say that we needed to get over this idea that God loves everyone. He said, "God does not love everyone. God loves his children. He hates all those other people."

22. this guy is such an asshole
"If I see a person who calls themselves Christian and is divorced and remarried, I know that they are hypocrites." My uncle rick is a devout christian, he even tries to get me, the family athiest, to read the bible. He is divorced because his first wife left him because she had "personality differences", he hadnt cheated or beat her and worked to provide for her and their child but she figured she would be happier off divorcing so she left him, he is now on his second marriage and the children of that marriage are 16 and both go to church with him and his 2nd wife. I believe that my uncle would be deeply offended that someone would question his faith because his first wife lost faith in their family and walked out on him.

27. His copy of the bible must be missing some parts
Specifically these parts;

This part of Matthew
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. (Matthew 7:1-5)

Or this part of Luke
"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

He also told them this parable: "Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. (Luke 6:37-42)

28. And of course masturbation is bad too
So they want people to be celibate until marriage (even if they don't get married until 25 or 30 or beyond), not masturbate and then pump out kids like the Duggars.

And of course they will be against any social programs that help parents raise all of these kids too I'm sure.

White people in Red states. I just don't get 'em. They might as well be from another planet.

32. I remember about 3 yrs ago it was late at night and I happened to tune into a christain channel and
a couple was on the show talking about her having had an abortion and she didn't tell her husband. Evidently it was a prior relationship. Anyway she finally told her husband years after they were married and about her guilt. They got to talking about birth control in general. If I am not mistaken these people were catholics. Of course in the catholic church they are against any type of birth control. But they were talking that there shouldn't be any birth control. I was shocked and I thought to myself that is what the religious right is pushing. To ban all type of birth control.

38. We have long known in womens' rights organizations that contrapception is a target...
of the right. They have kept it, somewhat, quiet as they know it would not be popular but if they ever succeed in overturning Roe, they'll be going after the pill and IUD's next. Condom use will prove more difficult for them but if causing fetal demise is ever outlawed, the pill and IUD's are gone.
