2. Why? They haven't supported *US* since about 1990 or so.
Edited on Sun Oct-24-10 05:53 PM by Tesha
Around that time, they decided the Republicans and the
corporation were their new friends and they didn't need
us anymore.

Now?

Fuck 'em!

Maybe when Sneering Steve Inskeep® is unemployed
he'll understand what it was we've been talking about
all along?

3. I do, whenever I can...I contributed yesterday to the fund drive
here in darkest Mississippi, NPR is the ONLY source for not completely right-wing fascist, racist news. Sincerely, the only one.

I haven't listened to them for years, and I heard they suck now. Ever since they got rid of that main announcer guy who had the silky smooth voice, I haven't listened, and that was years ago.

I just looked it up, his name is Bob Edwards, and NPR fired him from his job in 2004, and a lot of people were pissed about it just like I was because he was mega popular, they (NPR) didn't give a good reason for letting him go.

6. I stopped donating to Iowa Public Radio when NPR fired Bob.
But he didn't evaporate off the face of the earth:

I am a member of IPR again now because if Iowa Public Radio disappears, I am left with multiple stations playing songs screaming about Jesus, or a few golden oldies used to separate shoals of screaming commercials.

I really don't want Rushbo's voice to be the only one on the radio dial.

A Battle Over Programming at National Public Radio
By STEPHEN LABATON
WASHINGTON, May 15 - Executives at National Public Radio are increasingly at odds with the Bush appointees who lead the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

In one of several points of conflict in recent months, the chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which allocates federal funds for public radio and television, is considering a plan to monitor Middle East coverage on NPR news programs for evidence of bias, a corporation spokesman said on Friday.

The corporation's board has told its staff that it should consider redirecting money away from national newscasts and toward music programs produced by NPR stations.

Top officials at NPR and member stations are upset as well about the corporation's decision to appoint two ombudsmen to judge the content of programs for balance. And managers of public radio stations criticized the corporation in a resolution offered at their annual meeting two weeks ago urging it not to interfere in NPR editorial decisions.

7. Federal funding now is less than 6%, if what I read is correct.
Wish more listeners would chip in so we could cut loose from federal funding entirely --

"Balanced" to those corporate people will mean starting every newscast with the Pledge to the Flag and ending with the Star Spangled Banner.
