6. Yes
I'm also living it. Only I didn't get the 99 weeks. No such thing when my benefits ran out.

7. Our country is broken. We can have people worth billions, but people
cannot find jobs.

There is something really wrong with this country.

FUCKING REPUBLICANS.

9. Running a nation like a business means firing CITIZENS.
The purpose of a business is PROFIT.

The purpose of a nation is the well-being of its citizens.

These are not remotely the same purpose. We have decided the first is more important than the second. It isn't.

11. I FUCKING despise the repukes that say we need to run the government as a business.
Edited on Sun Oct-24-10 07:13 PM by madinmaryland
That is complete bullshit. Government runs the things that corporations/businesses cannot, will not, or are INCAPABLE of running.

You completely understand the problem, aquart.

:hi:

14. And they SQUEEZE increased productivity out of workers...
...with no corresponding increase in reward.

Among the phrases I absolutely HATE are:

"Do more with less!" and "Work smarter, not harder!" These usually are heard most often when your project's resources are being cut and your deadline accelerated, and when remaining staff has to shoulder the workload of those laid off. (Funny, you hear the same thing in government agencies during Republican Administrations.) They only make me think of one thing:

8. It's frightening
I just exhausted my first 26 weeks, and they've extended it for another 26 starting today. I pray the economy picks up and I can find something. I hate this.

12. All I could think of as I watched it was that now they want to raise Social Security age to 70
All those people were older, & they will probably never find a good job again. They're just hanging on until they get Social Security. And now they want people to wait until their 70. What the hell are they supposed to do in the meantime???

16. Stick around for the Top Gear segment!
It wont alleviate the sadness of the 99ers, but you might get a chuckle or two at least.

17. Just watched it online
I'm at about 64 weeks now. Virtually no improvement on the horizon. Still, I'm better off than most, for which I am very grateful.

18. I Started A Thread About The Difficulty Of Finding A Job
My girlfriend is a senior accountant with twenty years of public and private accounting experience. She is back in the job market, after being laid off from a job she had for four months, which took her months and months to find. We are casting a large net to find a job that covers the southeast, TX, and CA. Most DUERS were sympathetic but there were a few who said my girlfriend should retrain. Perhaps she should retrain like the Financial Analyst who got a job at Target for %9.50 an hour which comes out to be about $250.00 a week after takeout.
