Unease and fear permeated the Northern Illinois University campus on Sunday as dormitories remained on lockdown following the discovery of remains believed to be those of freshman Antinette "Toni" Keller.
On Monday, the university community was still waiting for definitive word on how Keller died, who found her, when and under what circumstances.
Officially, her case was being called a death investigation, but the actions implemented by school officials--the locking of student dorms, beefed up police presence on campus and more--suggested her death was a homicide. There was no information from either police or the coroner's office, however.
From campus elevators to the NIU bleachers as the Huskies beat Central Michigan University on Saturday night, the talk on campus centered on Keller. She disappeared Oct. 14 after telling friends she was going for a walk toward Prairie Park, just south of Illinois Highway 38. ..........(more)
