Tea Party activists have fumed at accusations of intolerance and racism, insisting their concerns about President Barack Obama are policy-oriented. Yet dozens of Tea Party groups have openly admitted to the Washington Post that the president's race is a factor in their activism.

In a lengthy investigation into the fledgling political movement that has made tremendous waves nationally, Amy Gardner reported that the Post identified more than 1,400 Tea Party groups across the nation and spoke extensively with 647 of them about their philosophies and ambitions.

"Eleven percent said that Obama's race, religion or ethnic background was either a 'very important' or 'somewhat important' factor in the support their group has received," the Post concluded.

As per the Post's reporting, that amounts to over 70 Tea Party organizations (eleven percent of 647) that willingly concede Obama's race is fueling their members' activism.

4. Nor do they want to. they actually want to be able to be open about it publicly.
Don't think for a minute that they wouldn't love to hold White Pride parades and tell "darkie" jokes in social situations. Hate radio has made them wonder why Rush can say it, but they can't without facing some stigma and blowback.

6. I'm shocked...
that they'd actually say it out loud.

They spend so much time denying that race as anything to do with anything. It's all about the Constitution, which most of them can't or won't read--and don't ask them to spell the word. :eyes:

9. Someone finally got around to asking them?
That IS news. Sure, the signs, signals, nods and winks have all been there from Day One, but as long as the question wasn't asked, the fiction could be maintained that this was just a bunch of citizens goosed into political participation for any of various reasons. Okay, a small bunch of citizens. And the motivating factor varied from group to group, or even individual to individual, hell, sometimes even within each individual. But nobody thought before now to ask whether race played a part in their new-found activism. Mickle strange, considering how much armchair psychoanalysis went into the confident proclamations from the popular media about what animated the anti-war folks. They knew just by looking at us that we were a bunch of dirty fucking hippies, reliving our glory days from the 1960s, even if a lot of us weren't even alive then.
