Also notice how the militia dorks have both hands on their weapons at all times. I don't know if thats just them posing for the camera or if they just walk around like that all the time, but I'm guessing its the latter. It won't be long before someone gets accidentally shot at one of these events. I've been around guns enough to know that these guys are not handling them safely.

I love the US. I'm planning to go back to school to study journalism in September, and my dream job would be to cover US politics for a big Canadian (or American, I suppose) media outlet. I'm definitely not one of those Canadians who feels the need to defensively define my "Canadianness" by showing how "not American" I am. Also, I know the Paul crowd pictured here doesn't represent the majority of Americans.

But, damn. We really don't have this north of the 49th parallel. Assault rifles at a political event? I'm both appalled and fascinated. (Are those assault rifles? I don't know much about firearms.) In a way I'm glad I get to observe this from the outside - it would be different if I were American, I wouldn't get to step back and be fascinated - I'd be too busy fighting these Tea Party libertarian types (politically, not with violence) to appreciate them from an anthropological kind of perspective.
