There is a reason many of us are suspicious of this fellow.
He met with the RNC in February.
http://www.projo.com/extra/election/content/edward_fitzpatrick_9_09-09-10_S0JQF05_v21.23815dd.htmlGeneral Treasurer Frank T. Caprio, the Democratic candidate for governor, met with Republican National Committee officials in February, an RNC spokesman confirmed this week.
RNC Chairman Michael S. Steele was scheduled to attend the meeting with Caprio at RNC headquarters in Washington, D.C., spokesman Parish Braden said, but he couldn’t immediately confirm whether Steele attended or provide an exact date.
The meeting occurred at a time when the RNC chief of staff was Kenneth K. McKay IV (a Rhode Islander who once served as chief of staff for Republican Governor Carcieri), so you’d think McKay would attend. But McKay declined to comment Wednesday, and Braden couldn’t confirm whether McKay attended.
The meeting occurred at a time when Caprio was facing questions about whether he’d run as a Democrat, Republican or independent. Caprio is a lifelong Democrat, but he was viewed as more conservative than the other Democrat running for governor at the time, Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch (who dropped out in July).Silent for almost a week, Caprio claimed the meeting was with an old friend.

Caprio told The Associated Press on Thursday that Ken McKay, a former campaign manager for Republican Governor Carcieri (and Carcieri's former chief of staff), was the old friend he wanted to see. Caprio would not say what they discussed. McKay did not immediately return a phone message Thursday. Now, Michael Steele claims it was "just a visit" but admits he talked to him.

"He came down to visit my chief of staff (Kenneth K. McKay), who he knew a mutual friend. He was in town. They talked. I said, hello, nice to meet him. That was it," Steele said.
