Jury selection begins in DeLay trial
Edited on Tue Oct-26-10 02:16 PM by napi21

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay is heading into trial on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Tuesday morning jury selection proceedings began at the Travis County Justice Complex. The defense and prosecution are sifting through 91 potential jurors. Selection is expected to wrap by Wednesday afternoon.

Prosecutors allege DeLay funneled $190,000 in corporate contributions to help elect State Republicans in 2002. DeLay denies the charges, pleading not guilty.

He's pushed for a trial since 2005 when charges were first filed. The case has gone from one appeal to another in the pre-trial proceedings, pushing the start date back each time.

Oooooo, I hope they get this sucker!

Just finished the aricle. I HAD to add this last clip!

Following jury selection, the trial is scheduled to begin next Monday, the day before mid-term elections. If convicted DeLay has requested a judge, not jury, for sentencing. He faces five years to life on the money laundering charge and two to 20 years on the conspiracy charge.

1. I guess it's too late for me to move to Texas and get on this jury
IMO money laundering is a capital offense. At least when delay is the laundryman. Hanging's too good for that sucker.

2. Will a Texas judge find him guilty
if the facts warrant that decision? Heard some strange stories about Texas 'justice'. Any opinions from our friends in Texas.

3. Oh, to live in Austin and get picked for that jury

delicious.

I bet he asked for a judge instead of a jury. He'll probably move to move the trial away from Austin. Somewhere like, say McLennen or Bosque County, right down the road, but light years away in other ways.

5. If you read the article, it tates that DeLay's atty's asked that
the trial be moved out of Travis cty. because he deserved to be judged by a jury of his peers & Travis cty people aren't his peers. The judge refused stating that he would receive a fair trial right there. It also states that in a survey, 40% of the people in Travis cty. believe he is GUILTY!

6. Missed it
I kept up with the bugman for a while, and have enjoyed not having to look at his corrupt face faking tears over things like Terri Schiavo.

HAHAHA, I knew he would try to get out of town. What DeLay wants is to pick people who will acquit him. People who agree with his corruptness. We should tell him that's not how the Constitution planned it. He can look it up.

4. He requested a judge to sentence?
That's so he can buy the judge. Texas judges are easily bought. Frontier history is full of bought Texas judges.
