Family friend: Comrade "went berserk," killed St. Johnsville soldier

An Army soldier "went berserk" on Sunday, killing two comrades -- including David Jones of St. Johnsville -- at a base in Iraq, a service member told friends and relatives of Jones.

The Department of Defense (DoD) has not confirmed or denied the claims, which CBS 6 first reported Tuesday night.

"From what I understand, somebody went into a rage... held them hostage and started killing them," said Jones aunt, Theresa Bennett. "Two died, and three others were in urgent care."

DoD does not discuss casualties until 72 hours after the family has been notified, a woman in the DoD media affairs office said. In the case of Jones, the embargo would not be lifted until 11:00 p.m. Wednesday. A duty officer did not immediately return a CBS 6 phone call.
