Karl Rove: '45 Percent Of NPR Listeners Were Saddam Hussein'

GOP strategist Karl Rove and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean discussed the merits of various media outlets Monday night, unsurprisingly finding themselves on polar opposites of the debate.

Dean spoke positively about NPR, even in the wake of a recent controversy concerning the firing of correspondent Juan Williams over statements he made on Fox News, while Rove claimed that NPR's audience was like Saddam Hussein.

Rove reportedly interrupted: "45 percent of NPR listeners were Saddam Hussein."

3. What?? One of my favorite NPR shows I seldom miss and I'm like Saddam Hussein?
Oh, good grief. Juan Williams has had his day in the spotlight--it's time for him to take his $2 million and slink off into the abyss that is FAUX "News". Won't happen, of course, anymore than Rove will slink off to whatever dark place he belongs in, but I can dream, can't I?

I'm sick of this entire subject. Wanta cut funding to NPR, Rethuglicans? Go ahead. Make my day. But for god's sake, please--just shut up!

9. My bet is Karl actually said "Four to five percent" -- meaning that NPR

has only 20 to 25 total listeners . . .
This would be the sort of smarmy snideness we have learned to expect from Karl.

(I thought I heard an announcer talking about "Bachmann Stoners" the other day, but of course he was saying, "Bachmann's donors.")

Edited to add:
I remember a case of a circumcised baby bleeding to death while the parents waited two days before bringing him to the Emergency Room. The doctor said he had told them the bleeding should stop "within four to eight hours" and my guess is that the parents heard "forty-eight hours."

Howard Dean explained that in a poll 45% of Fox News viewers had stated that Saddam Hussein was tied to the 9/11 attacks while only 11% of public radio and television viewers beleved that. Rove replied that 45% of npr listeners were Saddam Hussein.

But I have to admit I don't understand Rove's comment.

Don't think this will impair my quality of life any, though.

12. Even Saddam Hussein wasn't Saddam Hussein
The usual dirty play by Rove. He attacks NPR, but another thing he dearly wants to do is to contribute to the idea that Saddam Hussein was this metaphysical super-monster. Rove needs us to believe Hussein was worse than Hitler. Rove's guy got us into an unnecessary war with a toothless tiger, nearly ruining the United States in the process.

When it comes to Rove, all America needs to know is that he was a Bush Administration insider flack. Oh, and he lied to the media by saying there was a "credible threat" to Air Force One on 9/11 while the crisis was in progress.

14. More People Listen to NPR in Certain Markets
and that drives them crazy.

The reason you never see local NPR ratings, is because Arbitron is so damn expensive. Not that they don't use Arbitron, but it's done separately and that lowers the cost to them.
When I worked in radio, I had a friend over at the local NPR station and when the book came out, I would sneak a copy over to her so they could see where they were in comparison to the rest of the stations.

NPR kicks ass, but they really kick ass in the qualitative portion of ratings.
