8. May as well. On MSNBC right now there's a camera scanning the
cloud-strewn sky looking for evil terrists over JFK. You can rest well knowing they are on the lookout.

2. The only thing that interests me about this story is the possibility of American fighter jets...
...flying over Canada.

That would be bad.

6. No,
they picked up the escort from the Canadians. Sorry if that wasn't clear; however, I believe the US and Canada have a reciprocal agreement about shared airspace. I'll see if I can find a link for you.

If you're really concerned the plane is a threat does it really make sense to fly it over the most densely populated area of the country?

that they were taking this action out of an abundance of caution.

Thomas Fuentes, former Asst Director of FBI just basically said the same thing you did, that if it were a definite threat it would have been diverted.

44. I interpret that to mean that they thought the danger was extremely slight,
and not worth inconveniencing a few hundred people or costing the airline any money. If they'd thought there was non-trivial danger of a crash, they would have sent it elsewhere.

Heck, they probably sussed out pretty early that there was no real danger, but saw an opportunity for some practice flights as well as to send a message about how ready they are...

http://montreal.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20101029/suspicious-items-101029/20101029/?hub=MontrealHome

Updated: Fri Oct. 29 2010 2:28:33 PM

CTV.ca News Staff

Airport authorities in central England discovered a suspicious item on a cargo plane early Friday, prompting a sweep of planes and a truck as far away as the U.S. and Dubai, in what officials believe may have been a trial run in a Yemen-based bomb plot.

American authorities say they located suspicious packages on board two planes bound for the U.S. but found no explosives.

Still, the bomb scare prompted security officials to notify U.S. President Barack Obama about a possible terrorist threat.

An unnamed U.S. official told The Associated Press that authorities are probing whether the packages may be part of a trial run in a plot to send bombs via air mail.

just reported by CNN. Plane just landed safely at JFK. Unknown if it's going to be isolated away from terminal.

Update: Plane is parked in populated area. FBI says it was escorted because it contains cargo from Yemen.
