On Eve Of Stewart's 'Sanity' Rally, A Great Debate
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130918630

by David Folkenflik

When Jon Stewart announced his Washington, D.C., Rally to Restore Sanity, he inspired much joy among fans of his Daily Show.

But he has also sparked a fierce debate among pundits over whether Stewart really has comedy or politics in mind for the event. It is scheduled for Saturday afternoon on the National Mall.

"I have had the growing suspicion that the participants in this rally don't entirely think of it as a comedy show," Timothy Noah of the online magazine Slate says. "I think that they are mistaking ... participation in this rally for some sort of political statement. That confusion troubles me."

1. It is amazing that they could not realize it could be both.
The purpose of Satire is to use humor to point out problems and advocate change.

I know it fucks up their heads to think that something might be done that serves more than one purpose.

5. They're just jealous. He's a better interviewer too.
Most of the MSM folks (and all of Faux) are unintentional comedians as well as lousy journalists.

3. Ohhh.. there will be tons more people at this event to counter Beck..
And they are young, fun, and understand enough to know why Jon and Steven are funny...

Spin, spin, and more spin.. Yes, they are comedy.. but they are satirical of the "new" and events in this country .. and they have a voice that cannot be ignored like other marches that don't even make the front section of the news.. (like the pre-Iraq protests).

6. this is the same propagandist that wrote a ten part piece of tripe about how
rising income inequality is a myth!

as wonkette said to him:

blow it out your ass

tim:

''Oh no! Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert and Zombie H.L. Mencken (who was, actually, not a performer) will not have very important human being Timothy Noah coming to their rallies! They should just stop their plans now because Timothy Noah would rather watch Zombie Will Rogers yammer out some folksy old-timey witticisms and do some rope tricks, because Rogers, according to Noah, never made fun of dolts who weren’t members of Congress. But Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert and Zombie H.L. Mencken have sometimes made fun of the masses of dolts who get taken in by Congressional dolts. Don’t you see the difference? That second one is mean! NONE OF THESE RALLY KIDS ARE ALLOWED TO BE MEAN TO TEABAGGERS IN TIMOTHY NOAH’S HOUSEHOLD BECAUSE WILL ROGERS NEVER MADE FUN OF TEABAGGERS IN HIS 1910S VAUDEVILLE SHOWS! ''

make sure you read the whole thing. highly entertaining send up of a GIGANTIC bucket of rancid douche

What doouche this Noah guy is. We happen to know that these aren't uneducated yokels we are making fun of, but are primarily well-heeled, upper middle class, rural types funded by very well educated big city billionaire types.

Making fun of people who are willfully ignorant fucktards is totally acceptable.

These people aren't poor, radio-less 1920's sharecroppers who don't know any better and are waiting to be turned into progressive, fair-minded democrats. These are totally-on-purpose assholes we are dealing with here.

Apparently Mr. Noah overlooked Will Rogers' film work with Stepin Fetchit. So, just to clarify:

Making fun of ignoramuses: Bad.
Making fun of black people: HI-LARIOUS.

Man, this dude sounds like a bagger more and more . . .

11. Duh...
It's America. OF COURSE a call for sanity is a satire and not a legitimate political statement. How could anyone possibly think otherwise?
