From the Anchorage Daily News Alaska Politics Blog:

Fagan pulled from the air after urging mass write-in campaign

A day after urging Alaskans to sign up as write-in candidates in the U.S. Senate race as an act of “civil disobedience,” a popular Anchorage talk show host was pulled from the air today.

KFQD 750 AM host Dan Fagan says he learned today from his general manager that his 2 to 5 p.m. show had been canceled after a representative of Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s campaign called to complain. Fagan said he's not fired and that the status of the show will be "re-evaluated" on Monday.

The caller said “that I should be punished for electioneering and that I may have violated electioneering laws,” Fagan said.

-snip-

Murkowski spokesman Steve Wackowski said the complaint to the radio did not come from within the campaign or from Murkowski herself.

2. The last thing Murkowski wants to do
is anger Fagan's conservative fans. Little wonder the spokesman claims the complaint didn't come from Murkowsi or her campaign, but it might be too late. We can hope!

3. They just want to keep him off the air until after the polls close.
He may have thought he was helping, but I think he buried Murkowski with his brilliant idea.

If so, it won't be the station that fires him, it will be his listeners.

8. Fagan's a huge Miller fan.
His plan was to bury Murkowski. Linda Kellen-Biegel, who blogs as Celtic Diva, predicted when Lisa announced her write-in that exactly this thing would happen. She said Murkowski should know that Joe's people would enter a bunch of write-ins at the last minute to confuse the issue. Very prophetic.

6. Still not clear on why anyone needed a list of write-in candidates anyway.
Can't you write in any name at all? Does Alaska "approve" candidates for write-in? And if not, isn't this whole list idea a gift to Murkowski?

7. The Teabaggers are going absolutely bonkers here.
But actually in this case I agree with them. There has never been a time before in Alaska history when a list of write-ins could be presented to a voter inside the polling station. It just hasn't been done. Shannyn Moore had a caller today who said he ran as a registered write-in candidate in 2008 and when he asked the Division of Elections if a list of write-ins could be provided to voters inside the stations, they told him no.

Now, just because the write-in is a Murkowski, the rules get changed at the very last minute. It may end up hurting Lisa more than it helps her because it seems that she's getting special favors. I think again the dynamics of this election shift. Scott McAdams looks better and better.
